and until you've actually seen bathurst, you can't appreciate just how friggin BIG it is! has there ever been bike racing there? i'd say it would be a bit too dangerous (like IOMTT really...)

Marty, they do have bike races there, but it's usually gp or superbike weekend at the island so you don't hear much from it

I'll watch it (well some of it). Couldn't care less what brand it is...racing is racing and as long as it involves wheels, engines and crashes its all good to me....especially if it includes kiwis beating Aussies!!

Im going to get hassled for this, BUT. It is recognized around the world as one of the best motorsport events.
It certainly is better than watching rugby or cricket.

What a load of crap. Bathurst is not a silly little track i know it like the back of my hand, i used to go to school in bathurst and i worked in the little zoo thats at the top of mount panorama, and as for that little outburst about the triumph :kick: :kick: :kick: :kick:
FROSTY
9th October 2005, 11:44
Ahh now them were the days moi son--when real men battled it out on the slopes of Mount panorama. True warriers they were too.
Ohh yea --they used to have some bike racing there too.
-For those too young this is a backhanded reference to the police/spectator brawls-riots that effectively shut down bathurst for bike races

What's the point of a motor race that can only be won by a Falcon or a Commodore? And where the Commodores are handicapped so that the Falcons can compete. I mean, what's that all about? Why don't they just all drive the same sort of car, a bit like the new A1 series?

I seriously don't give a shit about Bathurst. I watch the last 20 laps where it gets really exciting and that's it. I just physically can't watch it for the whole day.
And I had buckets today. And I crashed. Stupid low-siding. It's all part of racing. Nothing a bit of welding and maybe a new front brake lever can't fix.

Im never into roundy's for some reason, not even spectacular NASCAR crashes interest me, there was the rally on for a while, which is good, but I always end up going driving on gravel roads after 15minutes. oh and the stupid power cuts...

It's a silhouette formula now, all the running gear is the same only the bodies differ.
But for once I did watch it, (Nothing better to do while the Auck sunshine poured down)
It was quite interesting, especially Murph and Ambrose having a discussion about their crash. Shame that Jason Richards couldn't stay with Scaife at the end though.

It's the one V8 supercar race that I show any interest in each year, just so I can hassle the Ford fans at work the next week, beyond that, I have to remind myself that they're not really a Ford or a Holden, just a tube frame chassis, with a CF shell that looks like either brand, beyond that, like open wheelers, all the other parts are control pieces, like their 9" rear ends and 5.0 motors, both of which you'll never see in a production piece.
Now if they at least opened it up to full body cars again, with OEM engine sizes, that would be truely great, bring back turbo's!!!

Totally agree with you Hoon!!
Was a fantastic despite the chilling 3 degree weather (-5 with wind chill factor I'm told and I believe it!).
Arrived on The Friday and left Monday morning and there is much more to Bathurst than is seen on TV. There were drift car displays, Defenc Force fly over', FMX (ouch he fell off and broke his arm!) and the motorbike stunt rider from Mission impossible was there doing things on a bike I thought were impossible!
And yes there was the muscle car racing, Porsche racing, and the V8's!
Was awesome!

Women that love motorsport AND ride bikes. I could m***y one of those two - if I could get that word out without the *** of course :bleh:
Opinion - if it has an engine and wheels and races it's a good thing.

Eggzachery! One of the principle byproducts of production based motorsport is that it leads to technological advances that improve the road going cars. V8 Supercars don't use the production engine, gear box or suspension -they use live rear axles for fecks sake! I know that it's all done for parity and close racing, but as far as 'improving the breed' goes, the series is pointless.
And don't even get me started on the fecken "safety car"... remember when they used to leave dead cars in the safest spot they could and just carry on? Those were the days! And the assembled dead cars never caused a problem, despite the fact that the GTR was out there lapping at about current speeds.... with 100kg of ballast in the boot.

Bathurst was at it's best in the late '80s, early '90s. The Sierra/BMW battles were superb to watch. During that period, the Falcadores didn't get a look in.
I suppose all those different brands were quite confusing for your average Bathurst hill-dweller. Gentleman Jim got it right when he said they were all a pack of arseholes.
