Hi everyone,

I'm Stefan, and I'm new to the site. I am in need of a wee bit of help from you guys in the form of answering a few short questions to help me with an Economics assignment which is due in 2 days time.... :eek5:

Tax Questionnaire

1) Please select your income bracket (You don't have to disclose this, it just would be useful)
$0~38000
$38000~60000
$60000 +

2) Do you think that your current income tax level is:
too much/acceptable
Why?

3) Do you think the tax on petrol (including GST and other levy’s) is fair? Yes/No
Why?

4) Do you feel the taxes on alcohol and cigarettes is fair?
Yes/No
Why?

Thanks a lot,

The current income tax level is shit... it is unfair on those who earn more, flat tax rate should be in...

teh tax in petrol is ok. but still shitty, in saying that thou there are road works going on everywhere to improve the roads so i guess that money is going somewhere... :)

Tax in ciggies doesnt bother me, infact i wouldnt mind if they put it up cause then less people would smoke less.. alcohol?? i think it shouldnt have tax... it simply brings people closer together.. infact, it should get a nobel prize. :devil2:

Don't ask me why because I don't want to justify my answers and second my question is

1: Why sign up to a motorbike forum to ask questions about Tax's.

Sorry, its the second bad questionnaire in as many days

Sniper,

Well you see I didn't actually sign up to this site to post this questionaire, I am genuinely interested in bikes, believe it or not. I just happened to be required to seek out this information, and this forum seems full of helpful people.

Cheers guys,

Stefan

I believe you and I understand your reasons for doing so. I just find it strange that there seems to be alot of questionnaires popping up.

I will give you Kudo's, you did put it in the right thread.

more than worrying about the GST/taxes on petrol and cigs, which IMHO are luxury items, we should be worrying why we pay GST on rates and other taxes (a tax on a tax), and why we pay GST on basic needs - staple foods (breads/fruit/meats) and building products for homes (as opposed for commercial properties).

i don't give a shit if it costs $30 a packet for smokes. fuel will always be 'reasonable', due to its demand. they are paying over one pound (nearly $3) for a litre of diesel in the UK atm

Thanks marty, thats just what I'm after.

Don't talk to me about tax. It's way too high -- particularly when you add up all of the various charges and ancilliary taxes that go to Government coffers. Will stop here before I get too agitated and need medicating...

:Oi:

That is very a hypocritical thing to say!!! Alcohol kills more people than cigerettes. I don't smoke, I never will. BUT neither will I tell, or force someone
to do things my way!!! :angry2:  :bash:

Yeah, let's have a flat tax of, say, 15%.
And no public hospitals, no defence forces, less Police, no 'free' schools, etc.
Douglas tried this shit in 1987 and failed. It's ACT's policy that "dare not speak it's name" and they're polling really well, aren't they?
Then the money you save on tax, you can spend on medical insurance, home security, employment insurance, education.
You'll be so much better off and fuck the losers that can't afford it.

sounds like the usofa system lou!

it's the tax on a tax thing that pisses me off so much though.

although, having just spent a month in oz, their basic foodstuffs, even though they don't have GST on them, are not really that cheap. veggies maybe, but meat, beer and chips sure are!

So the basic food groups are cheaper then?

2) Income tax is too high. It progressively becomes a stronger disincentive to earn more money and better my prospects. The better I do, the worse off I am in some cases.

3) Do you think the tax on petrol (including GST and other levy’s) is fair? Yes/No
No

Why?
The money goes in as road tax but ends up being used for a lot of things - with very little of it being used on roads.

It'd be like me asking my accountant to set up a source of income under one label (let's call it rent) but having it actually come from drug dealing activites. The nature of the revenue totally belies the label, and the amount actually needed for/spent on roading is considerably less than they claim.

4) Do you feel the taxes on alcohol and cigarettes is fair?
No

Why?
Same reason as above. If the amount of damage and repair matched the revenue amounts generated through these taxes it'd be ok. Simple fact is - they're not

No. I think there should be no taxes on petrol, and they should stop maintaining the roads.

Sure, the sprotsbikes will complain, but I ride a bike with 225mm/200mm suspension travel so they can go get fucked.

System for self employed people (like me) is MUCH better here.
Oz tax reporting is a nightmare. (well it was 5 years ago - and i don't think it has improved)
