Hi guys,

just wanted to let you know that I just got some great service from 1Tonne (http://www.1tonne.co.nz/). In April I bought some boots which fit my wider foot quite nicely. I haven't been wearing them too often yet but some weeks ago the zip on the left boot came apart. It only happened once so I didn't complain. But now the zip slid out the top and it came apart again on the bottom of the zip.

I contacted 1Tonne in an email and told them about my problems. Please note the warranty of 3 months had just expired. Without any discussion and debate Nathan and Natalia from 1Tonne said they will send me a replacement today. This is perfect service in my eyes.

I wanted to give something back to them so I thought I just let you guys know about it, I hope that's ok. Apart from being their customer I have no relationship with 1Tonne or any of their staff at all.

Thanks for reading

Cheers

Peter

Thanks Peter, Nothing helps a business better than good products and good service, I am looking at some riding gear and your post helps me with my decision making.

It's sad that service is so bad in this country that we're impressed by a basic minimum service level - a faulty product is promptly replaced. Mention of a 3-month warranty is a bit of a piss take, is that the expected useful life of a pair of boots?

edit: I should say that my post isn't being specifically critical towards 1tonne, sorry if it comes off that way. I've purchased 2 sets of gear from 1tonne, but haven't utilised their customer service.

Bought a few things from 1tonne and no complaints. Quick delivery, quick to answer any questions and the recent textile jacket and pants I got are excellent value. Really enjoy wearing them.

I have their jeans cut leather pants, their bibbed pants, and the ballistic jacket, looking at the Brown classic jacket ATM along with ballistic pants to zip to the ballistic jacket I have for track days (now that my bibbed pants aren't enough for the new track rules) and they are well priced for what you get, a sleeve zip and jacket pocket zip has failed but main zips are still OK on the ballistic jacket after about 100,000 K's .... Used for every ride, used a bit of snow seal to keep the waterproof.

Picked up a new set of riding pants from them recently. Had to exchange a set due to sizing (always a risk ordering online) but no problem with them - exchanged promptly.

Very happy with the product.

Thanks Leathel, I am looking at leather pants and some easy on and off boots, I got a pair of very well priced Dri Rider "street boots", they are laces with a Velcro top strap, awesome leather boots but a tad narrow towards the toe end, they are slowly stretching, but as with age and a growing belly the lacing etc just to race into town is annoying me, but ideal for longer rides. The red bands are perfect, but not flash if I accidently bump into a group of riders on the way and try to keep up. lol

I had the Legend touring boots and they lasted OK, Soles where a bit soft and wore through before the rest wore out

The leather jeans lasted well, stitching opened a little after a lot of use and developed a leak right where you don't want it but the rest have lasted well, restitched without an issue, they come long and just cut to length, no padding but thick enough to save the skin if needed :)

http://www.1tonne.co.nz/product/aniline-leather-jeans/30/101/

Ohh and those leather pants have taken a beating so I don't blame the stitching giving out.... Pushing people up hills with lots of layers under them can't be good for the gear....or me :P

That looks more like playing in the mud at Horopito or is that normal at a Cold Kiwi? pushing bikes and people is not good for me on the road, never mind in that shit, heart attack material. lol Thanks for the info mate, they were the pants I was looking at, seeing you abusing them convinces me they must be pretty decent.

I rode up to where we camped without an issue, turned around to see the others at the base of the hill skidding, Munster made most of that mess, the old M50 was either stalling or wheel spinning... Was the first year after the leveling the paddock and they re seeded the grass..... so not the norm.

Was a little muddy in the gate area, lots dropped there bikes that year

That's all your off road riding skills kicking in. I have no doubts that my Fat Bob would have ended up mud wrestling with one very annoyed rider, I shudder to think of the repair costs( no matter how minor) to a HD.

Phar out there is some work gone into those events aye.

3 Months Warranty....? really.....

We only do a 3 month warranty. We could give a longer warranty but then we would have to factor this into our pricing. Some other brands have a longer warranty but they increase the price of their product by quite a lot.
Also, as stated by some others on this website, we will often go above the warranty period as we like to look after our customers.

CGA covers warranty anyway. Product has to be Fit for use. Thats not something you can contract out of.

Jeeper
17th September 2017, 13:37
CGA requires it to be fit for purpose and remain so for a reasonable expected useful life. If you are giving only 3 month warranty, are you implying that your items would only have a useful life of 3 months? BTW, CGA does not apply to commercial purchases and items bought in auctions houses when sold as is.

To my understanding, the CGA implies that the supplier must supply a warranty that takes into account the price of the item, the quality and usage. Since we sell at extra low prices, this is reflected in the warranty period. As seen in many other posts, the life expectancy of our items is more than the warranty period.

Also, we often look after our customers after the 3 month period.
NOTE: We have some customers who clock up to 60,000km a year (they live on their bike). So 3 months worth of riding for them is the equivalent to what most people do in 2 years.

Here ya go people.

https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/get-guidance/shopping-and-buying/warranties/

Offering a perceived short period does not contract anyone out of the CGA and I do not believe 1Tonne is attempting to do that. If I remember my Alpinestars jacket had a 12 month one but I expect a expensive jacket to last a lot longer than that!

I'm very happy with my 1T pants - what do I have to compare them with? A expensive A-stars jacket.

I have no intention to put either through the ultimate test though.

I think the CGA on safety gear like motorcycle jackets and pants would cover you for a reasonable period (provided you have not crashed in them). It will cover stitching failing and the likes if that happens outside a warranty as this is not something you'd expect from such a item.

It's a bit of a black area though (excuse pun) - like those people who say they got 8,000 kms out of a ultra sticky tyre and when you see the life defying tyre the thing is running on the cords and should have been replaced 2,000 kms ago .......

The thread was about good service and product.

Don't turn it into one of those leather gear threads like we used to have a few years back with another supplier ........... remember them?

Triple stitching out of unobtainum thread that had been sewn by certified virgin Indian high school girls while their mothers oiled the leather with their Mobil 1 covered breasts.

Totally false. A good must be fit for purpose, the legislation is silent on price in this respect. The only way in which a 3-month warranty is appropriate is if you're clear to your customers that your goods have a useful life of 3 months. A reasonable person would expect motorcycle gear to have a useful life much longer than that, so unless you're explicit about your product's useful life your 3-month warranty period is meaningless in the eyes of the law.

I ordered the Blitz boots on Easter Monday and here they were at home for me today (Wed.) Can't fault that. For $150 these are again excellent value and they look smart, well made and comfy. I'd worn out my Gaerne sports boots after 8 years and I see they still retail for $450. So I decided after getting good gloves and the brilliant Duel textile jacket and pants from 1Tonne I would give them another go and get boots. These are a nice placement between race/sports type boots and touring boots- just where I sit these days.

Nice, definitely keep us posted on how you find them. I'm after a good pair of similar styled boots some time in the next 12 months, and I find the usual $400+ price tag hard to swallow.

Would you say they're true to size?

The boots are awesome. We use a manufacturer that a number of the big brand names use.
They are mass produced and we just get our brand name put on them. So I have seen our boots with another brand name on them and I asked the person how much they cost, he said that they were pretty much double the price from a bike shop.
