Are the cheap chain cutting and riveting sets off ebay any good? It seems I can spend $40-50 or $300 ish with nothing much in between.
I only need it to do the link rivets on a 525 chain.
Cheers

I bought a cheap one, one of the hardened pins snapped, it still worked though. I'd go with the good option then lend it out for beers.

you gets what yous pays for. cheap one might do a chain a month and last a year.
proper one will fuck chains up all day long. and last a year. or a chain a month and you canpass it on to your grandkids.

Have a look at Torpedo7 - under Moto & tools they have a set on sale for $48. Normally $80. Torpedo7 are good on warranties - if you buy it and it shits itself when you use it they will most likely refund you.
For breaking a old chain I'd recommend a angle grinder to clear off the rivet heads first - you can use the tool or hammer and punch them apart.
