It's possible to get red rep by accident and also blank rep too (blank takes a previous rep point off btw). From memory I think green is the default and it's already checked in, so if the rep button was clicked without looking then it could happen that way.

If you have a low post count you will not see who the rep is from unless they sign it.

Apropos of the permitted abuse of calling someone an egg on KB.
