Thinking of painting one of my wheel sets. Is powder or some kind of 2 pack better?
Anybody in Aucks that would be good?

Largely depends on the end use. Track wheels see a lot of tyre changing - powder doesn't take well to knocks on the tyre machine.
Last set of rims I painted, it was bead blast, etch prime, rattlecan colour then professionally sprayed clear and baked. They've stood up very well.

Good prep and a decent two pack in my opinion. That's all factory wheels are.
And it's easier to change colour later than if you have power coated them.
Mmmmm metallic Titanium coloured wheels.

Horses for courses. Powder is cheap, and wears bloody well within reason (my car's 2 pack wheels have more chips than my bike's powdered ones simply due to harsher use). I'd go 2 pack if you want them too look flash with a nice gloss or metalic finish, otherwise powder for your bog standard colors.

This.
If I wasn't a painter I'd powder coat. In fact my boss recently had his Colorado wheels powder coated and he owns his own paint shop.

I want to go gold but one that pops if you get what I mean. Can powder do that?

Possibly not, in which case paint. Powder will never have that X factor, but it is durable and cheap.

I was delivering something unrelated to Bert at powder surfaces in upper hutt the other day and he'd been doing bits in a new product, looked like 90% chrome.
I'll be talking to him at some stage about how that'll work with some cherry tints mixed in....

A while back I had a good chat with the guy that runs Greystone Firearms (Specialist Gunsmith) & a Cerakote certified specialist. And during the conversation asked what he was limited to working with mainly if motorcycle parts were able to be done; basically his response was the limit was the depth of the pockets wanting a job done
Pretty awesome stuff with unreal durability (can be used on piston crowns) and nearly any colour can be done

worth looking at as it makes powdercoat, 2pack etc look stupid ;)

I was at a power coaters (CHCH) a year or so back and he had a new range of metallic colours that looked pretty good.

I did a single motorbike wheel earlier this year: for my racebike. Its satin black. I had it chemically stripped by an electroplaters then powdercoated. Looks great. Its a shed ornament (now) because the bike its attached to has a dicked motor. But yeah: powder coat: some time and fucking about: $80 total investment.

A bit late in replying but I powder coated a set of wheels for my road bike. I wouldn't do it again as they chipped very easily within a few weeks of going on the bike. I think Paint would be more forgiving.

I suspect it would be as durable as a tissue condom:pinch:
And I know it costs a fortune to buy
