I've been waiting for the usual post Top Gear thread where everyone blasts bike hater Clarkson for sneering at bikes. We had that nice blonde German chick taking a Transit van around The Ring trying to beat the time Clarkson set in a diesel Jag.She came across a bike and shouted for it to get out of her way, then passed it!! Oh shit that was funny, some sportsbike, head down arse up going as fast as he can - and he gets cleaned up by a blonde in a diesel Transit....pity they didn't interview him afterwards, what sort of excuse could he dream up??

Yeah saw that the other night. What was even funnier was the fact she was bouncing up in down in the transit thinking it would go faster....... hehe  poor guys gettin knee-down then passed by a transhit...

She also got overtaken quite a few times though, by other cars and bikes.
But yes it must be massively demoralising to get beaten by a van........my excuse would be "I was warming the tires as it was my first lap" :)

I never saw it, but THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR BEING OVERTAKEN BY A TRANSHIT!!! The only honourable thing left for the poor bastard is hara-kiri.

I chuckled at that.. but then it's the rider, not the bike, that's at fault.. I'm sure in the right hands, a sports 250 could have kept up with the van. But she did bloody well to nail it as hard as she did. If I was on the bike a) that wouldn't have happened, but b), you'd make it a mission to at least salvage some of your rep, wouldn't you..?? There were the odd Porsche etc on there too..
Anyone else see the green ZX10 shown a couple of times there? I'd love to have a go on that track..

That was excellent. Don't be so sure Buggy, as there are sections of that track where getting it wrong 7 corners ago means you are incredibly slow for the next minute or so.
When I used to be cool and owned an RC30 there was a German intstructor who was on an RC30 oriented BBS (remember those kids?) and he was saying that to get a decent lap in there, there was more than one spot where the bike would be off the ground for 100 metres at a time. He'd stacked it at the Flugenplatz 6 times, trying to learn how hard to hit it and still have time to make the gentle right when he landed. The difference between a good lap and getting passed by a Diesel van is serious, doesn;t matter if I die commitment, and intricate track knowledge.

Hell yeah, she's done how many laps? 15,000. She knows that place better then you know the back of your hand BJ, and from what I understand you know that pretty well. And it's recommended that bikes don't go to flat out there, something to do with the run-off room....

In a couple of years when i go to germany, i am gonna go and do a couple of laps there at 5 pounds entry fee, that is nothing. Nice track too.

Definitely, but local knowlwedge is more important than anything at that track as was proved on Sunday. To be only 9 seconds slower than a more powerful better handling Sedan in a VAN proves that point.

That woman has been on before ,,I watch top gear on the web ( winamp shoutcast TV)
The last time i saw her Clarkson was trying to get round in 10 min at the nurenburgh ring he tried and tried ,,,,she hopped in and did it in 9 min ...and she was chatting away to him as if it was a sunday drive ....
would have loved to see the transit though !!!

Yeah I saw that & laughed, but who knows? -it could have been his first lap or even his 10th & still not know the way around. Most racetracks take only a couple of mins but it takes quite a few laps to get half serious & that is a dangerous road taking 9-10 min.
I regularly overtake people in my van fully loaded with dirtbikes or whatever while they flounder in late model, presumably competent cars & I’m not a good driver. Don’t know -I don’t drive cars if I can avoid it, but I’m guessing that the van doesn’t have that much advantage on them in the handing or power stakes. Maybe the cars might be better even. :psst:
This isn’t because my driving skill is good. Everybody claims to be ‘above average’ so maybe I am, but only because the average is so poor.
F1 replaced by van racing series? I might even watch it. -Meh, -only if they were towing leaking trailers full of soap suds.

Indeed. In the first TG show when Clarkson was introducing the Ring he mentioned that there are (can't remember exact number) 16 or so corners at Brands Hatch...and 140..something at The Ring!! Hell it probably took the German chickie 10000 of her 15000 laps before she got to really "know" it. Which is why I have to say I wasn't impressed with her rather arrogant, smug 'tude. I'd love to take her to say, Silverstone or somewhere and say, "ok smartarse, lets see how you go, and no you don't get 15000 practice laps either :)"

Looks funny with it's "100" stickers on the back indicating the presence of a speed limiter.
Their hidden camera guy also managed to snap a guy who was getting his knee down getting passed by 3 cars.
There is also a great photo on page 81 (I think) of something that all bikers who smoke can relate too...

The physics of cars and bikes differ vastly.

Well she is German, they tend to come across as arrogant.
And she'd probably still clean up most guys on any track. Car control is still car control wherever you are.

You can get to know the circuit after about 50 laps. Doing one or two and then stopping will never help, but if you can pound around continuously for 10 laps or so it does start to become familiar. There are very few slow parts and brake problems are not an issue (in a race car anyway), getting one corner wrong will completely bugger up the next 3 or 4 simply due to the fact that you have lost so much corner speed.
There may be 170 or so corners, but many simply aren't and are just slight kinks easily taken flat, in the dry at least. Also don't forget that at one point on the circuit it can be dry and 10 km's further on it can be raining hard.
The most exciting circuit in the world definitely, but the best is Spa.

in correct, yes some of it is posing though... But you cant use IOMTT as an example as it is a different type of racing. On the race track i get my knee down mainly due to the fact it is sandwiched between the track and the fairing.

Hahahaahaha - that was Sabine Schmitz, she woulda cleaned you out easy, even on your putry bike.
One of her jobs is as a consultant with cage companies telling them how to get thier cars to drive faster and handle better. That chick can drive:niceone:
