North America Trip

First time posting so if I stuff this up don't cut my throat. I'm heading to the US in June for a couple of months of riding. Never been there before. I recently purchased a bike just out of New York and I intend to ride it across country to Los Angeles picking up Route 66 on the way. I'll ship the bike back to NZ. I'd like to get in contact with someone who can steer me in the right direction for things like how do I insure the bike over there, accommodation tips etc etc etc. Cheers.
