One particular 2018 Ducati Panigale V4 caught on fire last week in Vancouver, Canada.
The cause is unknown but the rider was riding normally on city streets when the bike was engulfed in flames.
Ducati North America has responded quickly and inspections are currently underway to ensure that this was only one isolated case.

Anyone buying a V4 Panigale should also buy some fireproof underwear!

Ducati North America wasted no time in replacing it. The owner was given a new one within hours.

You'd hope so too...

Word on the web was it had been fitted with a aftermarket fuel cap (bling) and speculation it pissed fuel out over the engine when braking.

Me - I reckon it was a birthday pressy for some rich kid who thought the petrol filler was a ash tray.

I hope DNA reclaimed their replacement when they found out about the fuel cap.....if in fact that is what happened! I mean, if I was to splash out on a machine like that, I wouldn't be busting at the seams to replace a gas cap with some old tat found on ebay...

But, everybody knows that if you spend $30k on a bike and then stick on $200 of Chinesium 'bling' from eBay, it doubles the value of it!!

"$200 of Chinesium 'bling' from eBay" ? Are you mad? That is ten times what I would spend....

Jealousy aside, generally speaking Ducatis are like Harleys - the accessory book is very large and fat. My point is that its more likely than not the fuel thingy was chosen from an approved Dooooocarty catalogue and fitted by a professionally trained Dooooocarty technician. Hence them throwing their hands up and saying "here, have a new one Sir, we do regret this inconvenience"

Ducati have had an anodised "racing fuel cap" as an option for the Panigale's for years... I think you might be onto something

One can only hope it increases the top speed of the bike by 20kmh?

Or, do you enter it into a race with other fuel caps?

Mine came with a factory accessory catalogue - exhausts, LED blinkers, seat covers, lots of very expensive carbon - bike porn like that

I have no desire to change the fuel cap - stock one is spiffy looking and locks - all the aftermarket ones I've seen are 'quick release racing' which means two things: 1. when you fuel up you have to find somewhere to sit it (not hinged) and 2. someone could take a dump in your fuel tank.

Accessory catalogues - Triumph may be almost beating HD now.
