Hi Guys,
LFA
Need some advise of top box for a bike I am planning to buy that don't have their own rack mount.
I am either getting a Triumph Speed Triple RS or Indian Scout Bobber. Only problem with those picks is that I need a top box so that I am able to commute to work with my laptop and other stuff I usually take to work which in some days is quite a bit.
I was told by Indian CycleSpot that a customer was able to get a top box for his Indian Scout bobber but they weren't to sure who made the rack mount. Wonder if anyone knew who or how I can get a rack mount for those bikes.

Thanks for the # :) I tried to give them a call unfortunately they aren't able to provide a topbox or a saddle for the bobber. Next option is a Engineer to custom make a rack. Wondering does anyone know someone? or can recommend someone in auckland.

Although a motorcycle technician rather than an engineer, John from Motorcycle Works in Greenmount Drive, East Tamaki is quite handy with a welder and if you're located in East Auckland he might be worth dropping into for a chat?

Hi :) Thanks for the advised, I gave him a call. He advised that he needs to see the bike to determine whether he can do it or not. But I am not going to buy the bike unless I have a way of getting a rack installed :(
Might end up not buying my dream bike and buying a bike that does what I need :(

What you need, my son, is more than one motorbike. some shitbox for commuting, and something else for the weekends.

Yeah, I was thinking of keeping my cb300f as commuting and my bobber as a weekend bike, But with my earning, I can't afford 2xbike registration, insurance and everything else.
My second option is the Triumph Street Triple R. I like the bike.... but not LOVE the bike.

Don't buy it then would be my best advice. And I've told dozens of customers that over the years. It's too much money to have tied up in a bike that is only *ok* in your eyes.

If you're looking for ADVICE I can ADVISE you to check out Ventura industries website, (Google). They might have something for you. They are manufacturers so you would have to buy through a dealer.

When I bought my first bike here, I wanted a rack to fit my R-Jays pack. I went to an engineer who specialises in building sidecars for adding to m/bikes to make what they call here, Tricycles. Built from Stainless Steel it cost me the grand sum of P2,400, $NZ63!

You'll need to check it out further but the Indian USA site appears to have a lot of factory options for you to consider from saddle bags to the solo seat racks. If getting something made that rack looks like a good idea to fit a top-box too.
In theory the NZ dealer could get any of the accessories for you - if something suits you may be able to negotiate something to secure the deal.

I have tried them and they have told me that they don't have bags or any topbox for the scout bobber.
Just A FYI.
I need a top box not just for my laptop, I need to carry food and etc. Also I commute to work with my wife "The Indian Scout Bobber has a clip on and off pillion seat" so I need to carry her lunch and other stuff as well or when my team wants to have shared lunch, I can go out and buy a bunch of food for them. So I really need a topbox for that purpose. I've already checked with Indian Cyclespot, they do have a single sided saddle bag however it's fairly small. I think it's a 5L bag
I've tried some good guys from different metal engineers or welder business and they have told me that I need to get the bike and bring it to their workshop to determine whether they are able to design and build a rack. But I don't want to buy the bike, go to the workshop and for them to tell me that they aren't able to build a custom rack :(.

Hepco & Becker might be worth a try. I had that on my Virago. Best luggage I've ever seen. Don't know if it's available in NZ; it was on the bike when I bought it and the seller imported the whole unit from the UK. I know they've recently come to the Philippines.
I'll try and upload a pic.

You can buy decent size tank bags.
Whats wrong with a pair of panniers - add a decent size tank bag and you are rolling man.

You need a standard indian bobber carrier that is made to fit your model. Choose one that is flat across the top. Buy a SW Motech, Givi or Hepco & Becker top box and it's associated adaptor plate. Get the adaptor plate mounted on to the Indian carrier, minimal pissing round job done. That is how all of the top boxes are done. You have to buy its adaptor plate to marry the carrier and top box. The indian carrier bolts straight to your bike as intended. Adaptor to carrier is two flat surfaces with bolts and a plate underneath.
The topboxes lock into the adaptor plate for fast placement and removal, you can buy locks to key them on.

The onlly carrier frame option is the black one with 4 struts, not the sissybar type. There is not much clearance between the carrier and the fender. So a plate drilled for the adapter pattern would need to be welded on top of the carrier frame, and the struts gusseted for strenght, they appear to be welded for show.
In my opinion a topbox option would spoil the look of the bobber.
