The orifinal Guzzi V twin was i believe designed as a Army tractor.

It was. I've got an article somewhere with a pic of the 3 wheeled Mule with the powered front wheel halfway up the side of a house.
pilot is a very casual Italian Mountain regiment private - with the requisite feather in his hat.

One of their powered artillery pieces apparently had more reverse gears than forward...
