This game came to me from Mighty Ape (cheap...). It has 6 DVD's in the box. The whole game loaded off disc 1. WTF are the other 5 for then?

Cheap from Mighty Ape.

Actually I think it loaded from steam anyway in hindsight. Which is maybe why it didn't need the discs...

Must have been from Steam then.

All of the discs are required to fully install the game. You will be prompted by the install window to insert each additional disc as required.

If it didn't do that, then it must've downloaded through Steam.
