Sunstrike

It's a problem just now, with people less likely to see us. And oddly, with us less likely to see other road users.

Because it effects us as much as it effects other people.

A clean visor helps, but when you're blinded by the sun, maybe a different route would give you a road to ride on that doesn't get the sun at the problem angle. My commute home at the wrong time of day features a 7 km straight with the sun at the perfect angle to miss things that might be in side roads ahead of me. That it would benefit me to know about.

Back in the day we used to use a couple of strips of black electrical tape across the top of the visor in winter. Might do something similar again, but don't want to damage a $100 Shoei visor!

i ride with childs sunnies as a quick nod of the head can remove them from your eyes when you're suddenly into a shady spot as they don't hook back over your ears, then you can put them back when's there's time, going into a dark corner seriuosly changes your vision and of course this time of the year often those dark spots are wet spots too, give your self every chance you can I say

I'm an early morning rider,shortly after sunrise and straight into the sun strike.
Put too much on and you look like Niki Lauda, but hey it works.
I have never damaged a visor by doing it, and thinking back I've done it since owning my first "Bell Star".

Night riding is more an issue for me these days with all the blinding white car lights, havoc in the wet. My problem is I have prescription glasses for astigmatism ( long and short sighted) and also ones that darken slightly in light. Good point re sun strike, all year round I use these, just a matter of tipping head when sun is low

Used electrical tape on the bottom lip of my first BMW Series 2 helmet. When the visor was up it formed a great sun visor, akin to a baseball caps peak.

yeah tape is great! nowdays on such a slow bike I just have an "ADV ADV ADV" helmet with a peak/visor which is awesome and they come in FLURO YELLOW ^_^_^_^

The internal flip-up dark visor on my helmet is a useful supplement for the cheap & comfortable wraparound safety/sun spex I normally wear, either partially or fully down.

I quite like the idea of sun visor strips though, with "Gazza" on mine and "Shazza" on hers. :cool:

I've been trying to travel at a slightly different time as I have nearly 2 hours heading north. Fucks up my weekend, I'm not where I want to be at the time I want to be there.

Internal visor down and un-lock flip up from fully 'up' position.

Use the edge of the flip up as a sun visor......

All good and practical.

I have a couple of velcro dots out of peripheral vision on my dark visor. I carry an mx goggle strap with matching velcro. As sun drops I strap on my strap. .erm. on, anyway deviancy aside, it stays put due to rubber grip stuff on the back of it.
Great for late afternoon returns over Rimutakas.

Ah, the Rimutakas. We did our Popo motorcycle training up and down those hills back before they turned into wide open lanes and properly sealed roads.

Still, they may have regressed. Haven't been there for years.

Yarp, the peak on me Givi helps immensely. Just wish I could stop the internal sun visor from misting up.

Back in the day UK traffic cops were issued Serengeti Drivers, a brand of sunnies specifically designed to minimise glare from low sun while driving. Great shades but out of my price bracket.

Yep. Me too. Tape on the bottom of my visor because i tend to ride with it open so it finishes up in the perfect position. On my work helmet i have tape top and bottom.

...I swapped a very little Suzuki TS model for a thousand buck helmet a few years back...I could only use it for racing, more than twenty minutes in it and I felt like I had an Octopus gripping my head, not a Shark...then I got real crook and lost a lot of weight , my head shrunk, no voodoo man , just diabetes, and hey presto, the helmet now feels like a second skin...it makes closing ones eyes and hoping for the best feel a thousand bucks better...and its got eagle graphics on it...makes me soar...you wont be moaning about sunstrike in a month or six weeks, I bet...
