Anyone have any experience of the DNA tests you can do by post for ancestry purposes? eg https://www.ancestry.com.au/dna/
I have a family member whose late mother was adopted and is curious to find out a bit more about where her genes come from, geographically speaking.

Yep, both me and my wife - she's a gun genealogist and subscribes to several of the commercial genealogy sites to track our rellies down. The DNA tests were more of supporting information than great detail but they were well worth having done as there were a few surprises. It also enables Ancestry.com to send matches if you're a member. That's the extent of my knowledge but I'm happy to pass any questions on to the Financial Controller 😁

Cold day - was perusing the Net and noticed there seems to be a lot of DNA sites plying their luck on the side bars. - (thought:- they could tell you anything, how would you know the difference?)
I could always read your palm for you, very reasonable rates.

Yeah I've had a look too John. Seems to be a variety of sites at different prices and claims. 'How to work out where to go?' I thought. KiwiBiker will know! Hence the thread.

Apparently I can trace my Ancestry directly to Alexanda the Great, Julius Caesar and Michael Jackson's Doctor.
It was quite reasonable and I was able to do the test over the website by licking the mouse, which saved postage, although there has been a slight billing issue where they have accidentally charged my credit card the $59.95 every month since Christmas before last but I can't seem to find the website again to let them know of their mistake. I'm sure they'll refund that shortly.

The Mrs is deeply into this genealogist stuff and has done a couple of the tests too. The interesting thing was (along with a nudge for more cash for more tests) was the test results varied. EG 20% eastern european was 40% in test 2.
From what I gather, the tests are subject to a lot of variables, so you can send of tests to a few of these companies and chose the results you like the most.

I can’t believe people are gulliable enough to PAY to give their private info and DNA sample to the elite.... the next hitler can then conduct gene specific biowarfare against whoever it wants.... there is already a certain nation engaged in this.... Mind you anyone in NZ born in 74 or later already has their DNA illegally stored on file under the guise of the baby heel prick test for some disease thing...

The Guthrie test is illegal? You got a reference for that? The Guthrie information is also incredibly hard for anyone unauthorised (ie the Police) to access)

Yes because they took that info without consent and stored it. would be fine if they did the test then threw away your blood/dna but they didn't.....
Hard to access but not impossible.... and this here is where rogue elements or corruption could be used for a false prosecution and I don't think I need to mention anymore than Arthur allen Thomas to start the trail of police evidence planting cases in this country...... DNA is justa number, once they got your number they can do what they like with it and the ordinary person doesn't have the means/$$$$$$ to contest that

If you're worried about a crazed dictator engaging in some type of classist genocide by getting rid of undesirables / poor people etc you need not worry about giving them your DNA.
They could launch an effective assault based on post codes already anyway.

Funny thing happened to me today! I got asked to partake in a DNA test!
Long story short, the aim and hopeful outcome is to prove paternity so that my oldest can be issued with a UK passport. I assume it will no longer be an EU passport?.....

Now you have me really worried. I accidentally sprayed my DNA all over the computer screen,
but it wasn't a ancestry site,
I'm still concerned they may be able to clone me then frame my clone for something neither of us probably did. Alegedly.

Overseas this has already been successfully used. Even if say a cousin is a match for part of the profile they can then look at ready if family and see who matches up then move in from there.

I thought DNA stood for national association of dyslexics?

Don't do it. They will give your DNA to the filth who will then link you to all those murders you did years ago when you were a hitman for hire!!
