There are much cheaper options than factory designed/supplied (and model specific) luggage systems.

Just in many cases for new(er) bike models ... owners like/prefer the specific model choice for their bike. And being a late(er) model bike ... cost isn't an issue.

I designed a system for Givi hard luggage for my FJ. I acquired an old frame (off an old Honda from a wrecker) and just used the case mounting frame part and built a simple chassis between two strong mounting points ... and welding the two together. It took a couple of "dry runs" to get it looking half decent ... but I'm happy with the result.

I've even been questioned at rallys by other FJ owners about where I "Bought" the frame.

I do have a friend who is a (retired) engineer that had the welding gear (and time/inclination) to help me (for the price of a 24 pack of beer). The steel used was from a scrap metal merchant for sweet F A (around $20 from memory).

At the prices of OEM luggage/mounting costs, you could make a few $$$ making and selling your own....

I for one, am guilty of spending $1000+ on just Ventura racks alone for my bikes.....

 TIME WASTER! Wouldn't worry folks, as Malcolm wants a set of panniers / bars and all associated parts for $500. We have a club member selling a F800, to which has a set of near new panniers which are over $4500 to replace. Just heard that Malcolm contacted and said ((( if ))) panniers and bars are in good tidy condition he would offer $500. So, again, wouldn't worry folks. Malcolm lacks seriousness!!! We believe there are just some folk that need to stop watching trader shows on choice tv
