Motorbike transporting

Hey there!

Was wondering what people use for transporting their motorbikes? Looking to go to some track days and maybe pick up an off-road bike at some point so need a way to transport them that isn't too expensive.

Would a ute like the Holden Commodore VZ work well? If there's not enough room for it to go in straight with the tail gate up, is it safe for it to be in at an angle?

Or is a trailer going to be better/easier to use?

get a van and you can sleep in it too, then it's all secure when you stop, travel at open road speeds etc etc

I had a couple of VU and VY commodore utes. Even the 3.8 was plenty sufficient exceeding the payload (just a little) and still able to overtake etc.

Loading height is around 625-675mm, much more practical than the regular pumped up utes now, and about the same as vans. No, the tray won't take regular bikes with tailgate up, it's 45 degrees ish. I ended up switching to a van, as nothing was secure in the rear, had to remember to take keys out of ignition etc. However, the ute gives you a flexible overall height, the van is always one height.

I have a Hiace ZX, so the big one. Needed it to take the R1200GSA, but it also has 4 seats, plus space for two big bikes, something the Commodore never had. I put more seats back in if I need to move people. It's a big bugger for daily use tho, and at 2.3m tall, there are plenty of places it's too tall/long for. It's the best load space vs length tho, getting a bigger van like a Merc means much more overall length for not much more load length.
