So NO amount of alcohol is "good" for you. According to yesterday's news. Even 1 std drink per day wil put your health at risk.

Well, that's a start then innit. There's way too many humans on the planet as it is. If we were to be truly patriotic, we'd all go to the effort of doubling our alcohol intake at least and if we tried really hard we could drop the human population of the planet in just a few hard drinking years, thereby reducing all the evil stuff the media rants on about all of which is due to too many humans trying to shit in their own nest...:sweatdrop: or something.

Just saying.

Then there are the studies from Italy and the likes where they drink wine daily and have measurable benefits.

I am so tired of these studies. Everything in moderation and you will be fine. Even oxygen.

Actual scientific studies are largely dry affairs and get little or no attention from the media. What you are left with is something that sounds like a 'story'.

True! - At the conclusion of a days driving one constantly feels that the situation overall is gradually getting worse rather than improving. :wait:

Well I've got a bottle of Glenlivet here and a few dozen bottles of wine from arond the globe and I'm buggered if I'm going to put other people's health at risk by giving it all away. I'll take the bullet and drink it myself. "No greater love hath he..." Or something.

On one of the ships I was on "Cora the cook" had an bulkhead inscription:-

Indeed, I understand this devils nectar causes all manner of ill health and troubles.. Best do my bit to save everyone else from having to be at risk. Every beer I drink is one less that could harm another.

While that caused a chuckle, I would like to point out that it was not the inspiration for my quote. :innocent: The biblical verse John 15:13 is pretty much a cert to be quoted at every ANZAC Dawn Service.
Having said that you could be forgiven for thinking I could have at least quoted it correctly. Ah well...

I have always used a decent slug of booze to ease the pain of a long ride or drive.

Well, May is well and truly gone so I guess you're OK again now...

There was actually a serious (sort of) purpose to my OP.

I believe that the planet cannot support the current human population levels and certainly cannot deal with further population growth.

Which makes me think that it is counter to common sense to try to keep every human on the planet alive for as long as humanly possible. That's crazy. We are behaving like yeast cells in a vat of grape juice - uncontrolled population growth until we either run out of resources, (the yeast runs out of sugar and starves) or we poison ourselves with our emissions (the yeast produces enough alcohol to kill itself).

So doctors are way off beam. Yes, we have an individual will to live but we have no forward vision as a species. If we want the species to survive we need to have less of us and need to manage our existence in a sustainable way. Which we are not doing at present.

Still, I daresay that some event will eventually come along and fuck humanity over anyway. I doubt the planet needs the species for it to survive. After all, it doesn't seem to miss the dinosaurs does it? When all is said and done, nothing matters on a cosmic scale.

Tell that to your anti alcohol doctor.

I've wondered what will happen IF a cure for cancer is discovered. The extra loading on the planet's resources of an even larger human population would be devastating.

Well I remember seeing a Sci Fi thing (may have been Star Trek) where in lieu of having wars, the opposing civilisations just eliminated a certain percentage of their poplulation every so often then moved on. Perhaps that scenario might work (unless they decide all bikers must go).

So something could damage your health? Who gives a fuck. Just being born is the beginning of death anyway.

Besides, like what I said in the OP, the planet is over populated. Piss up large I reckon. And ride fast and foolish. And try skydiving, play rugby, try boxing, wrestling, mountain climbing, Formula 1...
