With the V6 Commy out of production what are the Police going to use in the future?
I spied a VW speed camera van on this mornings ride.
With this current special government they may have to go semi electric!
Large powerful sedans are pretty much restricted to the higher end Euro market now - I cannot see Audis, VW, Beemers in the budget.

Cost of ownership on the 5 series beemers the government bought for politicians, was lower than that of the Australian shit.
Ausie cops have Hyundai cars too.

I dunno how much that is worth. The item refers to peppier spec cars for HP use. A former HP man of long standing, recently retired, told me that the NZ Police have no "pursuit" vehicles. Engine wise their Holdens are basically no different to a taxi.

Could be a good thread if the NZG were outfitting the Popo with some high performance pursuit vehicles :niceone:
But nah - looks like they will be applying some Green Party based back off it speeds hit 160 policy application to their vehicles.
Holden must pretty much give them the cars to keep the contract.

No need for high performance pursuit vehicles ... if they don't stop after the chase initially begins ... they terminate the chase in the interest of safety.

When I was in Singapore ... the (two door) VW Beetle was a common sight ... with usually four officers aboard.
Up in Malaysia ... Alfa Romeos in and near the cities ... with Land Rovers everywhere else.
Both were armed and quite prepared to (and DID) shoot if threatened [not necessarily provoked as such].

This is true & the reason the popo didn't go with the cheaper (overall) BMW's was cause "public perception", they were worried about ignorant backlash of "wasting too much on cars"

Apparently a few were sold to South Island constabulary a few years ago. They tested various subies at Pukekohe and deemed the hot ones more than required performance wise.
As for diesels, love mine. 2ltr turbo, cheap on fuel and lickety split. Euro taxi drivers love em. (It's not a Holden...)

The official cars of New Zealand Police are Holdens, but eagle-eyed petrolheads have spotted there are four Toyotas on our roads.
The sightings suggest just how close Toyota came to getting the vehicle fleet contract that ticked over this June.
Police put out a request last year for carmakers to bid for the contract to take over the fleet of roughly 3100 cars – excluding undercover vehicles – by the end of June 2015.
Toyota and Skoda were among those competing with incumbent Holden.
The four Toyotas – two of which are in Wellington, one in the Bay of Plenty, and one in Counties-Manukau – are prototypes that police agreed to buy whatever the outcome of the tendering process.

When I was working in Singapore around 2000, these things were everywhere.
A '70's Toyota Crown platform with Hi Ace running gear & some modern ish lights & bumpers.
Just a utilitarian commercial sedan.
There was a Nissan equivalent that was basically a '70's 260c platform with running gear from a Navara diesel ute.
Seems your theory isn't too tough for some manufacturers to comprehend.
Singapore Govt only allowed them to do one million KM before being retired.
A weekend away to Batam or Bintan island would turn up the ones they had sold off or given away with over one million that were still. . err. . . Going.

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-43925712
What caught the big cities out was just the amount of soot the diesels put in the air making the cities smoggy and dirty. The manufacturers made them think they were cleaner than petrol but the VW scandal showed the logic was flawed.
I guess the particulate filters can be improved but it seems the rush is on now to electric anyway with petrol cars also facing bans later on than the diesels.

Paris already has the Crit'Air system in place which requires a sticker on the vehicle to denote its age and Euro rating. It seems like there is a small fee for the sticker but no ongoing charge, but they limit access of the vehicles to Paris central. Of interest is that all motorcycles and scooters registered before 1 June 2000 models are not eligible for stickers so will be fined if operated in the city between 8am and 8pm weekdays. Diesels are certainly given the hardest time on their categorisation. I haven't figured out what they are doing beyond banning certain vehicles but I guess they will drop eligibility year on year until nothing but green or category 1 are allowed. I understand Berlin started something similar as far back as 2008.
Not sure what this does to our thread on cop cars other than they shouldn't drive diesels and introducing something like this certainly gives them a bigger enforcement task

Remember that the Lunatic Fringe Party want a complete ban on oil exploration and drilling - anywhere - any time. They have forgotten that oil is used in the production of all sorts of other products (medical...) other than petrol, so the Green party's fuckwits can get back to riding their horse to work (obviously growing crops in the fields).
When proper electric vehicles are developed (we are not there yet, still developing them) then the "world will be saved" - again. Remember that we have already saved the world by getting rid of paper carrier bags that used to be used in supermarkets? Lucky we saved the trees by polluting the oceans with plastic instead...

Just imagine how ridiculous it will be for patrol cars to need recharging when there all double/tripl shifted to begin with, whens the downtime to recharge?
