Given up.
Although I will whinge about this thread misleading me to think you had raised some awesome topic for a collective moan session.
I want to complain about piss poor thread titles that end up being about nothing like what they appear.
And it's supposed to be fine today but just started bloody drizzling and I'm prep'ing the roof to paint it . bastard weather.
And petrol has jumped to $2.35
And it turns out Santa isn't real.
And no new bike models have come out for ages that give my wallet a hard on. (That's actually a good thing now I think about it)
I'll be back when I think of something else to moan about.

One whinge I have being a short fellah is why the hell are the manufacturers continuing to make adventure bikes with seat heights that would require me to carry a step to climb up on and if they don't, like some of the BMWs that actually have a low seat, they weigh like a quarter of a tonne?
Why can't I have something that was the size of my 1973 Honda XL175 but with say about as much power as a 500cc or better and still weigh say less than 130kg? Maybe electric bikes will finally do it if they sort the range issue without batteries being too heavy.

I'm pissed off that we're about to get hundreds of km of new wire rope barriers to make our roads safer for everyone except motorcyclists.
Although that's not completely fair as it should stop motorists on their bloody phones from crossing the centre line. Speaking of which:

I want to whinge about stupid motorcycle videos on the internet portraying the brotherhood as a pack of wankers. That video just shows a angry little man doing angry things. I'm going to assume that the blonde almost knocked him off prior to that incident.
I'll whinge about the hero on his freedom machine with no mufflers riding like a cock through traffic this morning while I was out in the car - he cut in so hard in front of me that if I'd not been aware of him and braked I reckon he would have clipped the edge of the car. He continued up the road in the same fashion fucking off the general population.
Indeed it appears to be 'look at me on my Freedom Machine' day in Christchurch - probably due to the stunning riding weather. Black T-shirts riding up the beer gut fatting along with open drag pipes.
Which leads me to the next whinge - really loud pipes on Freedom Machines. Now I like the sound of a set of pipes in the range of mellow to rowdy but fucking ear splitting is off. And the firing order of a HD with no muffling sounds crude as shit IMO. Shove some baffles in there and get a nice bass rumble. Side note I was reading a few weeks back that the drag pipe style reduces general performance on that engine - fine for the drag strip where it's all top end, but apparently a decent 2-1 will extract the max out of the engine across the rev range.
There was a SV Suzuki riding through my township yesterday with no mufflers at all - got my attention due to the racket.

Im not a cruiser person, not that there is anything wrong with them, its not what I'm into, I'm only young. just maybe manufacturers will make a low seat height Adv bike, but I wont hold my breath.

I am sure that statistically they are more likely to prevent a car crossing the centreline and killing you on your bike than they are of causing you any grief, unless of course you can't stay in your own lane either.

Oh fuck they are all out today. Lots of shiny Ducatis on the road as well, can't say I have seen one around for months. Open face helmets and no gloves seems to be the go. Ah you touch on another of my whinges - the cost of ACC levies and riding gear - specifically the lack of it. In a perfect world - yes, wear the F what you want, but as ACC also covers the stupid, I resent paying for hand (and the like) reconstruction for riders not wearing protective gear. There is excellent air-flowing gear out there.
Ditto why the F do the hospitals not charge a $200 (or more) 'drunk' fee? Apparently the A&E is full of booze poisoned persons every weekend.
That is great use of our medical staff, holding some 19 year old girls ponytail why she pukes her stomach out into a bowl, and in between chucks she cries her mascara smudged eyes out about 'Brad' being seen getting a BJ from some equally drunk fat-chick in the mens-room.

The saving grace on my Ducati is how narrow it is - so the 840mm seat height still allows me to toe it around. Any taller in the seat and I'd probably not purchased it. And I reckon it is just a styling thing - from a technical and mechanical point the subframe and thus seat could have been dropped 20mm easily - but then you'd not get that beautiful line from tank to tail, thus I believe the designer won.

I don't give a shit about the rope barriers - in fact I kind of welcome them as a road user as it's the dumb-F on the other side of the road talking on their cell phone who misses the car in front braking then panic swerves into the on-coming lane that the wire rope catches. Thus saving the poor motorcyclists riding along on the opposite side, or Joe Blogs on his annual family holiday.
Now if you are riding at crazy speed on your M-cycle and crash, and hit a rope barrier are you really in the position to complain about them?
Do you want power poles banned? They hurt like shit when you hit one.
Trains? Plenty of cars manage to hit trains (WTF).
Show me the statistic that proves wire barriers kill motorcyclists that are riding legally.
Whinge away, I have broad shoulders ;)

I was riding with a group last summer north of Whangamata when someone low sided into one of those barriers. The plate stopped the bike going under the Armco, and he was able to carry on with us. Wire rope barriers would have wrecked the bike, and possibly him as well.

Pretty much all of the barrier on the side of the state highways in Southland and Otago in the future will be this type. Because there is no approved post protection system for wire rope barriers you won't see much more of that going in. You can't have a continuous plate with wire rope because it works in a different way to armco.
You will start seeing more median barrier as well and I'm afraid for all the ravers on here most of that will be wire rope.
I wish I could find the link to the video of a car hitting a wire rope median barrier and being pulled back just before it hit a motorbike head on.
I was riding with a group last summer north of Whangamata when someone low sided into one of those barriers. The plate stopped the bike going under the Armco, and he was able to carry on with us. Wire rope barriers would have wrecked the bike, and possibly him as well.
Must have been a pretty low speed impact to be rideable. Obviously if he hit the plate he would have gone under the armco so he would have gone under the wire rope as well, perhaps hitting a post at low speed. Hardly life threatening.
Worth doing a bit of reading up on these things. Apart from a few high speed and high profile crashes where the type of barrier really wouldn't have changed the outcome they are not as bad as some motorcyclists make out. Sure, I wouldn't want to hit one at any speed, but the same goes for armco. Those 6" square wooden posts that hold it up make for horrific injuries by the way.
I commute every day on the the Dunedin southern 'motorway' which is just a dual carriageway with a wire rope down the middle for most of its length and a bit of concrete barrier at the end. It has been a few years since a rider hit and went over the concrete part but I have not seen or heard of any riders hitting the wire rope. Every couple of weeks though you see a big length with the posts missing where some twat on four wheels has drifted off to sleep or not been concentrating and gone in to them. With over 20,000 vehicles per day a lot of these would have been head on crashes with innocent people getting seriously fucked up if it were not for the barrier.
I'd rather have the wire rope barrier there to prevent these idiots taking me or my family out. I rate my chances to avoid hitting the barrier myself, it's not hard.

I was only aware of two fatal accidents in NZ that involved motorcyclists and WRB's ... none (I'm aware of) involving cars ... where do you get the 5% you mentioned ...
About 20% of the drivers on the roads consider the road their workplace ... ie: being paid to be there. Seldom do these drivers actually cause accidents ... but everyone declares them dangerous.
Most workplace accidents occur when the safety guards have been removed. Others because the "victim" disregarded safety instructions ... and/or (most common) simply lacked proper training. The latter two are the most common cause of road accidents.

Remember mine was a dual whinge about seat height and weight. The Triumph 800 comes in various seat heights including a low version much like the BMWs do, but flippin heck it weighs over 200kg dry and is as much a whale as the BMW twins, yet it is a triple, so surely more suited as a road bike than an adventure bike.

This pisses me off. Some 9 year old brat in Aussie gets lots of media coverage because she stupidly misinterprets "Australia Fair" to be promoting whites and blondes and therefore racist against the dark skinned Aborigines. And 'we are young' she claims is about the new European arrivals, denying the aborigines. I wasn't sitting beside whoever wrote it 150 odd years ago so I won't judge his/her intentions but I would hazard a guess it may refer to the 'new nation' of Australia being young, encompassing all who lived there.
Same shit has been said of our national anthem and of course our flag. Yes these things are dated! How can they not be when they were written and designed over 150 years ago. You have to judge them as contemporary - as at the time they happened. It's called history dickheads, what happened a long time ago. That doesn't make it wrong or right by today's standards.
Surprised the stupid 9 y.o hasn't complained that their anthem doesn't mention driving Holdens or using f#&^% smartphones.
History is what it is, warts and all. Stop trying to change it, deny it or disguise the bits we no longer like. Remember it and honour our ancestors for simply surviving in tough times and conditions that would really give us something to whinge about.

You're right, history is what it is a 140 year song written by a Scot (it's older than our bloody country). We get the same angst over our flag and what it represents. Personally, I say "why not" to changing things and moving on. The past should be observed, respected, and learned from but just because something has been one way for 140 years doesn't mean it needs to stay that way.

Personally, I say "why not" to changing things and moving on. The past should be observed, respected, and learned from but just because something has been one way for 140 years doesn't mean it needs to stay that way.
I have two words for you Kim:
LASER. FUCKING. KIWI.

Our national anthem is "Poi E" innit?
and if it isn't why the fuck not?
Also: Christ: take a pill. I personally think we should be rid of all relics of colonialism, any mention of god anywhere but especially in the organs of gubblemunt and ESPECIALLY "god of naaaayshuuuuns aaaat thyyyyy feeeeeet". I don't sing, but even when I did I would not fucking sing that shit. Fucking waste of brain cells. think of the neurons that died.
could sing god save the queen which is also an official national anthem for N Zud but to me that is as bad as our current flag which even NZers struggle to differentiate from the Aussie flag. change em all I say

... as it's the dumb-F on the other side of the road talking on their cell phone who misses the car in front braking then panic swerves into the on-coming lane that the wire rope catches.
My whinge is about these wankstains on Te News, demanding "fix the roads".
The road is fine, in fact it is entirely fit for purpose (a surface that you can drive a vehicle on - sealed or un-sealed). The problem lays with the operators of aforementioned vehicles! One of these muppets stated "I was in a head-on crash" which meant either the other driver, or her, crossed the cunting centerline and caused the crash... NOT the road.
Same shit has been said of our national anthem and of course our flag.
Well our "national anthem" needs to go, simply because it's shit. About as exciting and motivating as a rectal examination being given by a novice with cold metal instruments.
Otherwise we shall revert to the genuine anthem of NZ, Th' Dudes: Bliss.

normally i'd agree drive to the conditions etc but if it's the road up north of tauranga it's bad, slippery spots that just shouldn't be there, and they catch people out, simple as that,

Poxy motel room in Hastings. The cunting toilet seat keeps putting itself down about half an hour after taking a piss. First time it happened I thought Hemi was jumping through the window. I think I'll just piss with the seat down.

I was watching the item entirely unaffected until Simon Bridges started criticising the government for the state of the road. The road didn't suddenly deteriorate this year. Politicians piss me off.
Also I agree with Swoop's comments about the skill level of the road users being the real problem. That's what I was thinking as I watched the item - until Bridges rudely interrupted.

Agreed, a less than ideal message, but the music has "oomph" and power. Those are a couple of the things missing in our current "national dirge" (written by an Aussie...).
Even the French & Americans have a "peppier" tune.

The French anthem is the standard by which all others are judged, #1 on the anthem chart?
The American anthem has it's own problems though, the third verse contains the words:
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave
Unsurprisingly perhaps, some people find that passage offensive.

Bit of a theme with them. Don't want to mess with Mexicans.
French one:
Let's go children of the fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us tyranny's
Bloody flag is raised! (repeat)
In the countryside, do you hear
The roaring of these fierce soldiers?
They come right to our arms
To slit the throats of our sons, our friends!
US one:
''War, war without quarter to any who dare
to tarnish the coats of arms of the country!
War, war! Let the national banners
be soaked in waves of blood.''
''O, Fatherland, ere your children, defenseless
bend their neck beneath the yoke,
may your fields be watered with blood,
may their foot be printed in blood.''
Mexican one:
''War, war without quarter to any who dare
to tarnish the coats of arms of the country!
War, war! Let the national banners
be soaked in waves of blood.''
''O, Fatherland, ere your children, defenseless
bend their neck beneath the yoke,
may your fields be watered with blood,
may their foot be printed in blood.''

125 years since women won the right to vote?
So how does that work? Surely men voted to give this right to women, but we wont see any mention
of these progressive thinking males mentioned in the current celebrations will we:oi-grr:

Exactly, but the woman #metoo brigade would never acknowledge that men do good deeds. Seven Sharp the other night and Hilary what's her name was harping on about how great those women were for GETTING themselves the vote, when Jeremy what's his name remarked but weren't the men also deserving of praise for GIVING woman the vote. She reacted like any other #metoo, with immediate anti-men bias rubbishing his notion that men had a part to play and should be acknowledged. People that rant on about other people being prejudiced often overlook how prejudiced they are themselves.

In saying that, one would probably want to check if the men doing the voting for women actually wanted that, or just thought it would be more likely they won the next election. Because if it's the latter, I don't think this is a high-fives all round moment.
FWIW, there's probably some men back then who do deserve a tip of the hat/jolly good show, old chap for their efforts.

But it was men that gave women the vote... Well more precisely 1 man, who wanted to stop them getting it, but pissed people off to the point where they voted for the womens vote just to spite him.
