Are wofs stringent these days?

I've got the option of purchasing a 1982 Honda xl250rc and it was last warranted in 2017, its on hold with the rego.

I've tested as much as I could and everything works, all seems well but I'm unsure how stringent wofs are these days?

It needs top end work so is pretty rattly would they fail it on this? It doesn't smoke or anything.

They will be as stringent in 2018 as they were in 2017. Theoretically ... all vehicles types should be tested to the same applicable standard ... as the testing requirements for each type are standard throughout the country.

The engine internals are not WOF tested. Unless it producing excessive smoke ... you'll be fine.

Sorry I should have been more specific on what I was meaning.
Do you think an old bike like this would have much trouble passing a WOF? Lights are all working, mirrors are good, tyres are near new. Brakes also are good just wondering what else I could get caught out on?

Pretty much anything in there that's relevant to your year & class of motorcycle.
But I'd doubt that it will fail on anything you couldn't repair within 28 days.

The fishing diversion may make you feel a little better, but I doubt it's helping if your tyre needs tread.

Fork seals on the older bikes are often the issue for a WOF fail. Steering head bearings and wheel bearings are the other common issue ...

I still do a few bike wof's as a favour to the owner of my former garage. Riders are far more machine aware than car drivers, who often want to know where the tread went or why you would fail such a perfectly good tyre.

Clearly did not attend any of the ACC days where they give pressure guages away.:facepalm:

Still, good customer service on your part, should get ACC to send you some guages as a free give away.
