Lower North Island 2 day Tour, Accom sugestions please.... :)

Hi All,

I will be coming up from Down South..

I am doing a weekend ride of the lower North Island in early November.

I am looking for good Pub / Accom suggestions, similar to Black Ball Hilton or Moutere Inn..

The Accommodation will determine where we go, starting in Wellington 8 am on Sat, 5 -6 hours interesting riding. both days.

Where have you been? and what do you recommend ?

We will be on a Duc ST4 and a YZF750SP

+1 for that, via Gentle Annie to just north of Taihape, across to Taumaranui and along the Forgotten Highway to the Whangamomona pub. Fantastic riding.

Granted there isn't much nightlife but really, whats wrong with Whanga? Its the sort of place you go because there isnt anything there apart from a really good ride in and out.

That's an odd reason to stay there. If ya carry on to Stratford ya get more great riding in, and nicer digs for the night. And ya can ride up the coast and back through some more fucking great roads the next day.

The Pub is already booked out for Saturday night, Drew, what would you recommend to stay at in Stratford? Hawera ?

I do want to do the Forgotten highway, its one road I havent been down or up yet.. :)

Any good country Pubs on the East coast ? south of Napier?

I ride the Forgotten Highway a couple of times a year. It's a fantastic bit of road. One of the best in the North Island in my opinion.

I often stay at the cabins at the Stratford Holiday Park. I also occasionally stay at Omaka Lodge on the Taumarunui side, right at the start of the Forgotten Highway.

Waking up and riding the road fresh is a great way to start the day.
