British cops use a new tactic "tactical contact" against bikers - ouch (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/nov/23/met-police-say-tough-tactics-have-reduced-violent-moped)

Faaark!
Good job, actually a great job.:niceone:
But brave
Hate to think of the paperwork when a thief hits the ground too hard and ends up dead or brain damaged.
Or worse, the cop gently nudges the thief into a pedestrian...:shit:

"Use the brake"... Training by Tui.

About time the Feds were allowed to tackle the yoofs on mopeds scourge. Gonna be some great new crash vids popping up.

There's a personnel restraint system using special glue and a special glue gun, developed for the military. It's kinda like Spiderman's instant web. It sprays a high tech sticky fluid that quickly envelops and immobilises the target. I guess it can later be removed using the right solvents.

Spiderman cannons on police cars ought to be able to snare mopeds, assuming they are able to get close up behind or alongside them.

Now that's a video I'd like to see!

I had heard they had a lot of thefts and ram raids by moped riders in the UK. I didn't know it had it's own category 'moped crime'.

Serves the scum right. I've got no sympathy for anyone who steals other peoples stuff. A bullet is even cheaper.

Pommyland has gone to hell. May be worse soon with this Euro exit. Or better. I don't give a fuck really.

I do object to the Poms turning up in Godzone because they want to get away, settle down in NZ, then a few years later start whinging about how great the fucking motherland was.

I should post in rant and rave. It's getting to the end of the year. I'm tired. Work is doing another pointless restructure - no job loss just some knob flexing their corporate muscle fixing something not broken.

Yeah, the UK is continuing it's downward spiral. I'm the Pom in Godzone you speak of.

I don't whinge much, the motherland sucked, for me, in most ways. NZ is like paradise with herpes by comparison.

We stay home and apply ointment to the rash rather than wallow in this amazing country. Home here is amazing, the people and country outside the gate even more so.

If I want to stand up for anything, it would be to prevent NZ becoming like the UK.

True story, I live in both hemispheres.

The scooters will be stolen - or hijacked. Criminals don't usually pay for their get-away vehicles. There has been a lot of coverage of moped gangs in the Brit press, and even mention by motorcycle writers. (More serious than the tabloids.) The moped gangs are a serious problem and deserve whatever they get. Fuckem.

And what is the fall-out from this?
2 years on all 2 wheelers are fair game to ram. "That prick didn't indicate. Gettim " BASH.

Oh yeah. Um well we thought he was a criminal . That leg should, um, grow back. Ahh we'll send the ticket in the mail you seem to be a bit busy.
Best we call your wife and kids and tell them how dangerous motorbikes are.

Footnote, I'd posted something similar but less ridiculous on a Brit Triumph site a few days ago and boy did I get lambasted. They only saw the punishment of these shites but I'd really rather not give the plod Judge Dread right to injure me trusting they could tell me from a criminal that got away from the last week or maybe 5 mins ago and they were angry with.

So you're worried about being clipped by a chasing kop kar? Are you so unaware of your surroundings that the blues and twos wouldn't have given you the merest hint that perhaps something was going on? Why wouldn't you just stop? Like the T-pak thing, this is hardly going to be the first move.

Nicked scooters should be insured anyway, t'is the law up over.

I don't think that this tactic will encourage the feds to skittle bikers when they get the chance. The Feds in the UK have to account for every action, that's why they all wear body cams, it's not just collecting evidence but trying to maintain discipline. Don't ask me how well it's working..

And the tactics are aimed specifically at the scooter scrotes, be a lot harder to nudge something with a clutch and engine.

Just my thoughts.

Finally seeing scooters getting skittled will please a lot of law abiding people.

Also:
"Snatch & grab, then ride off" thefts from people on the streets (wallets, handbags, cellphones, etc).
Theft of other bikes. Two-up on a moped and they aggro a rider off of his/her bike when stopped, then ride off with both bikes.
Lots of variations. Have a look on EweChoob for a good sample of scooter-scum.

So now the responsibility is on the biker stop or be knocked off. Or both, seen that on one of those silly police chase shorts on the TV.

So scooter riders could be even more at risk. Imagine a gf or your child , a learner rider on a scooter perhaps (why didn't you buy them a bike cheap prick) in a complex arrangement of city street traffic, not realizing the lights are for them as they haven't done anything wrong, why aren't they passing me. Bash.

I just don't think I'd trust a lot of cops with that weapon to use it correctly every time. Even one innocent person injured as a result is too many.
I also resent being placed in the same basket as criminals.

It is possible to be too concerned. These arseholes are using acid and electric grinders. Whatever they get is probably long overdue. Scooter crime is a serious problem in the UK, and moto journalists who live there, and are familiar with what is happening, are not complaining that I can see. And some of them ride scooters.

Flossie with her pink backpack and blonde hair is unlikely to be targetted by the constabulary. As you say errors are possible although I'd disagree that one innocent person injured is too many. The problem is more serious than you seem to think.
Drastic measures are overdue.

Stolen bike, no helmet, wrong way on the footpath with handbags flapping around behind you makes you fair game. It's a completely different league to what happens over here.

As far as the Police are concerned I think you would be fairly safe on your own bike if you aren't waving a knife around. I would suggest you are going to be more at risk from Joe Public doing the same thing once they have seen it on Crimewatch a few times.

Ya these are some pretty big numbers we're talking about

In May 2017 the London Evening Standard revealed that at least 50,000 crimes had been committed by gangs using stolen scooters, mopeds, motorcycles and bikes. The Metropolitan Police stated that the vehicles were often hijacked in Outer London boroughs such as Barking and Dagenham and used to commit robberies in the West End of London. Statistics released by the Metropolitan Police revealed that 1,500 scooters or motorcycles are being stolen in London every month. In the previous twelve months 13,005 thefts were reported, a 41 per cent increase over the previous period.

Silly question. Why aren't they doing the random checkpoint thing to sieve out the scum?

Or is that tactic reserved for the dastardly bastards that had two beersies instead of one at the corner local?

Hundreds of years of tradition. The have's shafting the have not's has led to an "if you can't beat em, join em" mind set. Britain is unofficially known as - Rip off Britain - to it's residents. It is shit and crooked.

It seems Poms are not alone in treating strangers like crooked shits. I sold a van to some Belgian backpackers a couple of years ago.
Not being a typical Pom anymore I had the van checked at my local garage before the sale, it needed new belts so I authorised and paid for the work.
It would be rude to leave these young people stuck at the side of the road on their holiday of a lifetime I felt.

Speaking to the mechanic later he said they were real shitheads and did not believe he had done the work, even showing them the old belts and new belts in place. He came very close to telling them to F off. I felt pretty stink after trying to do the right thing.

Every time I go back to the UK it feels further away from the country and people I remember. When family visit NZ they are always amazed at how pleasant and trusting people here are. Then moan about prices...

Smug? I live in Northland, a "poor" part. Not by the beach. I do get your point - on a regular basis. Still better than inner city UK by a long way.

We have a lot of kids and their parents ripping around on dirt bikes. More like Philadelphia than Luton.

I haven't been back to the UK since 2003 and have no desire to do so. By comparison with NZ, the people were miserable with no sense of optimism. Although I was born and educated there, I honestly felt like a stranger which is hardly surprising as we arrived in NZ in 1975. All countries have their problems but I know where I'd sooner be! Your experience with friends and family who visit NZ mirrors ours.

I lived in London for 5 years in the late 80's early 90's and loved it. . Lots of concerts, great ales, only a few hours and your in France,1 pound Sun beer runs to Dunkirk, markets, swap meets, red letter days where you get lessons around Brands Hatch then a drive in a Formula first, Honda riding school at Cadwell Park, flight in a Tiger Moth, rode my Triumph T100 around the IOM , brewery tours, Imperial War Museum, all the other museums.
East East curries, Brick Lane, Greenwich.....list goes on.
Of course if I had been working in a pub none of that would have happened but as an temp immigrant with some work ethic there was some really good coin to be made...loadsamoney.

I feel the same way about my time in London during the mid - late eighties. Had a brilliant time, worked hard, played hard.

Probably anyone doing the same thing now would feel the same way, it's an amazing city. Different story and different attitude for those raised there, the constant news and opinions on Brexit show a big change in how the people feel about the state of the UK.

That is most definitely for another thread, though. Not one I'm interested in, either.

Bit of an add on to the above.

I lived straight across the road from Broadwater Farm Estate (https://youtu.be/JtlUGNg_zrk) when the riots kicked off and PC Keith Blakelock was stabbed. I seem to recall an IRA bombing campaign while I lived in London, must have been there earlier than I thought.

Tottenham turned into the Shankhill road for a month or so after the riots, armoured landrovers and armoured cars on the streets.

Perspective is a funny thing..... I'd forgotten about all that.
