wouldnt mind a KDx200, but not stuck on it.
what else makes a good dirt / trail bike thats 2 stroke? wont be raced so dont need a full on moto-x bike.

yeah same, though I think they stopped making the KDX around 2007? - so not sure how well they stack up against other options
I know nothing about the KTM, or KTM in general - though I guess Id be looking at the EXC 300 as a similar type bike.
I like the idea of having a 2 stroke for the dirt and dont mind the additional maintenance over a 4 stroke, I just dont know what else is out there that is suitable for moderate trail riding that is suitable - hence the thread
Im hoping for some testimonials I gues, from those who have had a run, good or bad, with smokers as trail bikes.
I dont want any old shit from the 90's though

What additional maintenance ? I use a 1998 RMX250, all I do it lube the chain and change the gearbox oil occasionally

Gas Gas. Easy to ride and reliable. KTM can be a bit more of a committed race bike.
There have been heaps in our group. The 200 was great but the 300 is greatererer.
As usual jetting improves them and heaps of info on net and an active forum.

I'm guessing you have not smashed anything off your GG? If so, where do you get parts from? Not being disingenuous, I have one GG and may end up with another but getting parts has been APITA.
Er, not basic maintenance parts, but bits melted, snapped and worn from round to oval. :spanking: My ignorance exceeds my talent.
TBH, I can't think of a bad 2t enduro being produced now. No matter the brand they all seem to perform very well.

I have a KDX. Only buy one if you want a Reliable bike. No good if you want to have the latest greatest.
Top end every few hundred hours st worst.
Not flash or euro but a ton of fun. Can be tuned to have a real hit or to tractor.

Parts have been easy. Consumables are CR250. Pistons, crank parts off MXparts, I've bought other bits off decent dealer with no wait. About 10 years on gg, and every trail ride there are more and more.
