I was in the USA in mid Dec and the stars came into alignment and allowed me to rent a bike for a few days.
I usually ride a BMW F650 here.

In Las Vegas I rented a Triumph Trophy SE from Eurobikes. Cost about $US250 for 3 days (haven't seen the credit card bill yet).
Wanted to see a friend in Phoenix, AZ, about 450km away.

Hit the road about midday, pulled into Phoenix bang on 6pm. Probably took 5 or 7 hours (crossed a timezone so not sure).

Great roads, great bike. Not much traffic. I could set the cruise control to 85 mph and just follow the white line. No traffic cops in sight.
Amazing scenery, a bit like Desert Rd, but bigger and much more variation.

Happened across a section of Route 66, so took a bit of that in.

Now I'm hunting for a bigger bike.

Edit - buggered if I know how to rotate photos properly, stupid computer

A cracking ride on what is a cracking bike. There's nothing to beat a ride in a foreign land when you've not been there before. Especially when the machine you have is so well suited to the job.

I'm a wee bit jealous. It's a shame that Triumph no longer make the Trophy. I rode one a few years back on thought it to be better than the BMW R1200RT I owned from 2008-2011.

I've since bought a Honda ST1100 (Pan European).

Speaking to several people selling their ST1100s, it turns out they're selling to buy small bikes for gravel, so decided keep my BMW F650.
I've already spent a couple thousand dollars on the F650 so might as well keep it.

Had an opportunity to ride an ST1100 to Rotorua ( from Hamilton) and my F650 from Rotorua back to Hamilton on the same day.
For the first 20km leaving Rotorua on the F650 I hated it, but over the last 30km going into Hamilton I loved it's agility.
I'm not a great rider, but found myself throwing it around like a little trail bike.
Great fun, will be keeping them both.

Next up is the 1KC on the ST.
