My thoughts exacary, have a go on. My interest is piqued.

Price wise... Yeah, nah.

It looks alright. I find it the first Harley for a long time that looks like a HD but also looks modern. That's probably a sad comment on the brand in retrospect .....

Anyway - bloody expensive. For the rich.

It may work out OK for HD owners price wise as you won't have to buy a new filter, pipes, ECU ....... :bleh:

wonder if most of the stored energy will be wasted on making them sound loud, just like the current harleys :bleh:

For once I'm seriously concerned for HD. Isn't the "sound of Harley" the trademark of HD motorcycles, and the main selling-point? Isn't that why customers keep on buying them and attach aftermarket or Screamin' Eagle pipes, for that sound?

If Mustang had no sound nobody would be buying it.

And I would also want the vibration, exhaust smells etc like a real bike would have.

I had an interesting conversation with a sprintcar racer the other day (V8 on a lawnchair, go out, turn left) and theres apparently a guy looking to do an EV conversion on one to see how it goes. Gobs of torque, lighter than the V8 and similar performance but the first thing the guy said to me is "Won't sound like a V8" ... that might be a good thing at Western Springs.....

Anybody who says that electric bikes are silent or boring obviously hasn't heard one at full chat. They sound awesome! I can't wait for MotoE to hear a full pack of them.

There's a person who lives in my city who owns an Energica Eva (basically the naked equivalent of the Ego used for MotoE) and they went fuckin' FLYING past me one day. Sounded bonkers!

No doubt, in keeping with their "up to date" technology, the bike will be powered by Leclanche Cells...

Why is HD doing this?

Because their current target market are getting older and older and consequently more stuck in their ways. They are just not picking up 'new' riders.

The are stuck in a never ending jerk-circle of old me with beer-pots, grey beards and leather tassels. The Motor Company needs need blood.

Side note I see in a mag I was reading over the break if you buy a Sportster and trade it on a big block within 12 months they will give you your purchase price of the Sporty as trade value. No loss for a years motoring.

Yep - They've done that with Sportsters and their trade values before - In the US at least. It's a good idea and one which gets people into the brand.

I love my little Sportster 48. It's a keeper for me and I was really looking forward to seeing how the Livewire turned out once it reached the reality stage. I like the final look and it sounds as though the chassis is fitted with good components but that price is going to make it no more than a novelty here in NZ. That's not what H-D needs IMHO and won't get them the new numbers they reckon they need.

The roadster that was shown late last year looks more like the sort of package that they need to be putting out. An H-D version of what others are already making. I'd love a ride on the Livewire but it hasn't answered the leccy bike question I think many of us are now asking.

And apparently Ducati are close to production of something electric.

I quite like the electric hyper mock-up.

Lightning is releasing the Strike (expected in March) with 150mile range, 150MPH top speed & 35min fast charge for $13k USD. That's less than half the price of the LiveWire.
Harley have a lot to do to convince the geriatrics to climb aboard the electric train or get the new-breed to spend twice as much just for a eagle on the tank & some tassels on the handlebars

I don't understand why Honda are not pouring out electric scooters (thing a electric Honda cub) and small bikes with a arse kicking decent bike around the corner. They have electric motors in their cars in various forms so they are playing with the tech.

Is it a gay thing?

Seems no-one is as yet selling electric bikes for the general market, none listed on trade me and a quick google search shows no one selling anything remotely resembling a road bike for sale in NZ with any kind of dealership or service centre, with the exception of Ubco which is pretty much a C90 type thing...
I have ignored the available electric scroters.....

Cycletreads had a Zero demo bike a few years back. That's the only electric bike that I can think of seeing in NZ.

think the big players know which way the wind is blowing (automated electric cars via UBER like order system, auto go charge when they get low/sign off/sign on when charged all automated) personal driving vehicle transport is a thing of the past in their minds... only 3rd world/developing countries will have actual driver cars in ~ 30-50 years time i'd think, enjoy the ride fellas....

In fifty years I'll be 116 years old, I MAY be ready to park up my big block '55 F100 by then...maybe.

If I had the coin one of these would be the go. From the reviews though they overheat damn quick.

More info from The Motor Company about their electric bike. I'm actually quite horified that HD of all companies is pushing forward with this form of innovation given their stubbornness to think outside the 45 degree V Twin. The future ball gazing must have been very, very bad for them.

it goes exactly with that (stupid)thinking though, all the smart players are going NOPE its a dumb idea with current tech.... (and if for some reason it was the future [its not] they have prototypes to put into production should that ever prove to be the case) stop gap at best before irrelevance mark my words :bleh:

BE interesting to see what happens. I also see Eric Buell is designing for a company named Fuell - electric bikes and motorcycles. If Eric is involved it will fail .... :(

I though the the electric revolution for motorcycles would be small ones - scooters and the likes, electric Honda Cubs.
