Hi all recently acquired a PE 175, plan is to slowly restore it in the shed, get me off the couch, guy could not find the carburettor for it so gave me one off a old RM 250 from the same era, he seems to think that carburettor would be fine, have tried starting it it fired and tried running and then stopped and now will not do anything it has a good spark at the plug so was thinking maybe it is the carburettor should I be trying to find an original one for the 175 cheers

Make damn sure that the flywheel has not sheared the woodruff key and is spinning on the crank. Lot of wasted time fixing other things in the past to find this was the case...

So the plug is getting wet with fuel yeah, or is it dry?

Replace it anyway, a plug can spark outside but under pressure fail to spark inside.

Try Google

pe 175 carb settings

RM250 will be like a 36 or 38mm, PE likely 34. Bit too big but you might get it ok enough.

Just try a new plug first. Really.

what he said^

I reckon 95% of 'it wont run' issues Ive ever had on a 2 stoke were immediately solved, or vastly improved with a new plug.
