Where to get spare keys cut?

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for getting spare keys cut :yes:

Surprise surprise my 1982 Honda CB only had one key when I got it! It appears to be a simple cut, so I figure it wouldnt be too tough getting a duplicate made.

Suggestions for Auckland based locksmiths or key-cutters etc who can get this done?

If you haven't got a specialist locksmith in your area, try Mitre10. The nearest one to us does key-cutting and holds a decent range of blanks.

Try Armstrong Locksmiths , they have branches all around the city and NZ .

Yeah, a good locksmith should be able to source either new keys, if you have the key number, or cut one from an appropriate blank.

No doubt the key is pretty worn so don't be surprised if freshly cut keys are PITA.

I had to get keys for my 93 CRM.. Saga ensued. The key code is on the ignition barrel, which I had to remove. Two bolts, easy. Until I munted the soft alloy heads not realising they were loctited in.

If you have to go down this route heat is your friend.

JYou can get Honda blanks too if you want org look .I guess up to you.any key cutting place do good job.most get try it and bring back make sure works well.

I got spare keys cut for my '76 C550/4 by a local locksmith here in Palmy last month easy enough. The blank wasn't perfect but a slight alteration did the trick.

Complete new barrels with two keys are cheap at about $US18 plus postage. They are better than the originals with better water proofing for the loom connector. Cutting keys for modern stuff can be tricky.

When I was still working one of our less sorted staff members lost one of the original keys for a Toyota. A replacement was ordered from the Parts Dept.

Some time later the car wouldn't start, the dealer was called, a mechanic came and had a look, no luck. He sent for a truck and they took the car away. A coupla days later there was an anguished phone call, "Where did you get this key?"

The key looked right, had the right teeth on it, but none of the electrickery it was supposed to have. The car was on contract so it didn't cost us, but it must have cost Toyota considerable.

The number of GN's being wrecked ... you could get a complete ignition and key's ... for the same price as you will pay at a locksmith to get a key cut.

Use existing key for the seat.

Missed the OP by six months, but just in case someone does a search in the future:

Armstrong's have the gear but you'll need to supply the blank ( they can supply RFID if required because of HISS) if you want it to say Honda on it.
Blanks with RFID uncut are around $50.

The two Honda dealers I called didn't know how to program a key so I went the eBay route.

Key, RFID and tool ( you will need to teach it to your bike which requires a tool) about $50 delivered.
To be fair I haven't got around to trying to learn the key yet but Armstrong's cut it for free with some other keys I was getting cut.
Unlike my car's RFID the ones I bought on eBay are not programmable.

They could supply a programmable RFID for $40 that is a copy of my existing RFID.

The reason they gave for not charging for the key cut is they didn't supply the blank so they want no part in guaranteeing it.

I doubt it would have been done at all if I didn't already spend $200 on various other keys, RFID and programming etc.

Both Honda dealers I went to would get me in a blank with no cutting and no guarantees or I could get an entire new HISS setup plus install. $1500 plus labour.
They didn't know how much for labour because they haven't done one.

Not keen to name them because I still feel with them for anything I can't do myself.
