View Full Version : My clutch has lost pressure- just sitting in the garage? Why

One of my bikes VFR Honda has lost pressure on the hydraulic clutch.
Like it has no fluid ,
It has fluid, and been no problem for the 2 years I have had it.
It has no leaks that I can see.
Reservoir is full. And the bike has not fallen over.

So I bled the clutch fliud out and put new fluid in.
Seems to be now working fine, ie. 3days later it still has good pressure.

Q , Why should it randomly lose pressure?

It possibly absorbed some moisture from the atmosphere.

How long was it sitting not being used?

One I had recently was the clutch slave... There isn't much fluid in the system, so you don't have to lose much, and I couldn't see any leaks...

I had a similar issue quite a few years back. The issue was at the clutch lever.

90s Yamahas did this occasionally. I pulled the slave on my YZF and replaced the seal. I cleaned the slave out and gave it a light clean up with fine sandpaper. There was some corrosion at the lowest point. Water gets absorbed and is heavy so sinks. I change fluids but bike was 2nd hand so I was likely the first.

sandpaper, you brute, haven't you heard of wet and dry?

Generic term for metal sandpaper but yeah I use crc or wd40 with it

I say from exp my two vfr 750s it's the cylinder by the engine u find paint peeling of around underneeth.u can get kits with new spring and seals from aftermarket .from most bike shops.
