I'm headed to Auckland from the USA to work soon for at least 7 months and I can't survive without a bike. I'm trying to figure out where you all buy used bikes from there - so far I've found trademe. Doesn't seem like Craigslist is an option there. What online places are good to find bikes besides trademe? Any decent dealers in or around Auckland that sell used bikes?
I've got three at home - dirt, street and track. I can only afford one bike while I'm there so probably looking to find a dual sport/smaller do it all adventure bike.
From looking online it seems dealer price bikes much higher than here in the US - I assume it's because NZ is an island so the cost of importing must be higher. Probably same for vehicles as well I assume...
I'm looking to spend around 5K if that can get me a decent bike to have some fun on...

Cheers

Trademe and facebook are about it, you should get something okay for 5k! best of luck

TradeMe is really it. Dealer prices are usually higher but you won't get much of a warranty, so most used bikes are sold privately.

Why not bring something with you and sell it when you leave? You should at least break even. There are businesses that specialise in shipping vehicles from the US to NZ.

Thanks all
I will look into shipping but I figured it wasn't worth it since I'm halfway across the world on the eastern US it would cost a lot...better to buy a used bike and sell when I leave

Yes, also probably not worth it for a 5k bike. Just a thought...

What kind of bike are you after, style, make etc?

5k USD or NZD?

5K-ish USD depending on what I found...more if it was the perfect bike but I'd like to stick around that if possible.
Also since I'm there just temporary for work (for now) any issues buying a bike and registering it even though I don't have a permanent address there?

I need a dual sport as I can only have one and I will use it on street and also adventure riding as I hear it's amazing there to ride-

The perfect bike for your $US5000
You wont have any problem with ownership.
I might even take a bike like that off your hands at the end if it's still tidy.

5K-ish USD so you want us to work out what that is in NZD then?
Is this figure going to have to include registration, if so, 3 months, six months, nine months or a year?
