I just wondering if someone removes the ABS from a bike which has been sold new with optional ABS does it have to be re-vinned? I'm talking about the BMW 1150GS. Is there anywhere recorded whether ASB is there or not?

What are you planning to do with the ABS light on the dash?

What's so hard about getting a diagnosis & buying the required part off eBay?

No ABS was a optional extra on the 1150 GS , some did not have it. Make sure the light on dash is removed and the removal is done properly. You can get some ABS modules/pumps repaired some times.

Thanks for the comments, apparently the question is theoretical. I finally bought my new bike a 2001 1150 gs. No issue with ABS so far. I have a whole bunch of question but I guess I better to open a new topic.

There may be more talent on ADV rider forum for that kind of bike.

My GS has had the abs removed by a PO there's no cert on it, unit was removed, light disconnected and I took the dash off and taped over the abs writing as you could still see it in certain light. I've had no probs with wof.

My understanding is that removal of ABS is a significant change to the vehicle, requiring an LVV cert (basically to make sure the brakes are up to performance) and parts have to be from a non ABS variant.
