Experiences with 520 chain on 1000cc sprotsbike?

Time for a new chain and sprockets, toying with the idea of going to a lighter 520 from a 530. Anyone done this on a thou or similar? Did the torque of the bike eat through the chain noticeably quicker?

Yeah I wonder too, some claim better acceleration. I don't know but as long as the chain is up to it I'll give a try too.

I figured the same but hey .05 of a second could be the difference between getting to the pie shop before you.

I do it because a decent 520 chain is up to $50 cheaper then 525/530.

been doing for years.

there are some very strong 520 chains out there like EK3D and others, so strength not an issue

520 chain and sprockets could wear faster, but that's probably not an issue unless you're doing high kms.

There's quite a weight saving with a 520 aluminium rear sprocket.

This has been done plenty of times and with the addition of an ali sprocket and a lightweight carrier you can remove up to a kg of weight. There is an advantage in unsprung weight and rotating inertia, dyno runs reveal 1-2hp increase at the wheel. For racing where everything counts, its worth it. For the street- meh not so much but if my chain and sprockets all needed doing I would probably switch, but not as an upgrade. The downside is increased wear plus you need higher quality chain, an option is to use supersprox with an ali centre and steel teeth.
