1. decent stereo
2. decent benchtop and lighting
3. decent tool roll cab so everything is tidy and I know where everything is. Or should be.
Least valuable: why do we need to keep the car in the garage again?

Maintain "dream-space" :ride: by erecting carport shelters at either end of garage to accommodate 4 wheeled vehicles and avoidance of clutter.

I'd have to go
1 tool cabinet
2 bike bench
3 compressor
Although the bike bench is about as much use as a chocolate teapot without a compressor.
Theres a bunch of other stuff that make complicated tasks easier.
Id also recommend that you buy the biggest compressor you can fit in & afford.

Yep, found that out the hard way when I started using my sandblasting cabinet and stuff.
but, regarding the bike bench, where is the best place to score one of those. I am picking they are practically unobtainable second hand...

Hmmm starting with the stuff that I use all the time...
1) lighting and white walls
2) my Grandad's old Bowie-pattern fishing knife
3) Vernier calipers.
Would like various goodies like a lathe, bike lift etc but would really like a double garage.

I cut the legs off a stool and put little wheels on, but working on the ground is still the ground. I was lucky, Spyda was getting a fancy bench so I bought his old one )(of several). It was a sturdy wooden table with a galv top. With a ramp who really cares if it goes up or down?
Find a sturdy thin table and cut the legs down so it's like 500 high. Brace legs.
I then bought some 100mm angle steel for the front wheel to go in and got some straps welded to it. Then I bolted a large bit of upright and more angle for front of wheel. Tie down straps wheel in place.
Either a stand or tie downs to ceiling at an angle to hold back.
I bought another thin table and screwed a piece of MDF to it. Shadow board and place for toolbox. Shadow boards I thought were for you grandad. But really so much easier and close to stand.

Lots. Gasket scraping, tape cutting, wire stripping, prising stuff apart very carefully, etc etc... it's surprising how often the old Bowie comes out.

Stage 2
-800mm long breaker bar. Better and more control than going feral on a ratchet.
-Rattle gun.
-Drill press
-Map torch
Well I'm over 3 anyway.
Noisy as hell alarm
Fire extinguisher near exit.
Milk crate (remember those? Great for 2 stroke vertical split crankcases, resting engines on etc)
Tie downs. General bike support but leave 1 to roof and handle bar of bikes you dont want to fall over in an unscheduled earthquake. As they generally are.
Big vice, and a hammer for all occasions.

Washing machine and dryer - so the Missus can clean my clothes
Freezer- so the Missus can store food to cook for me
Wife's car - so the Missus can go to work to pay for my beer...and wine
I seem to collect gardening tools galore every time I go near a hardware store. My latest 'best buy' in the garage was a Renovator Transforma ladder. That baby saved me thousands by not having to pay for scaffolding last summer when I painted the house - the roof and exterior so it really got a workout.
As for bike stuff I thought CRC was the complete tool kit in a can. What else do you need? Surely not a tyre gauge.

I don't want to go off topic but I thoroughly recommend that ladder as a life saver. It's far more stable than other ladders, but heavy unfortunately. I'm too old to stand on a narrow ladder rung which give you aches and pains. Those fold out platforms were bloody fantastic and you literally walk up the ladder and step onto the roof with ease. Way safer than stepping to and from a rung ladder a dozen times a day.
Back on topic.. I have a hammer for bike maintenance. Jeremy Clarkson recommended it .

I 'Clarksoned' my bike in the garage this week - tipped it gently over while attempting to check the front suspension travel.
Doh!
Suspension's fine. My balance isn't. Lesson learned.

It's not a secret, but the secret to a long lasting good looking job is the preparation and don't shirk it.
Which why I'll never paint my house. Fuck that noise. Spend another 4 hours sanding the Alcatravies ( I think that's a house part) or go riding on this clear warm day?

Best thing in my garage? A concrete floor.
After years of working outside and on gravel it is just so much easier.
Next I need power...

three sheds...one for storing all my treasures, like nine bikes and every other piece of useful shit I've collected...one for working on ... bikes mainly, and playing with the useful shit I've collected over the last fifty years...one for doing what I'm supposed to be doing when I'm, 'down the shed', full of timber and my woodworking tools...
...the fourth most handy thing is hundreds of those little wooden kebab skewers...the ones with a little paddle/handle thingy...one of the most useful things for so many little jobs...
