As a Pro Twins racer I have been following this one with interest for the past year since it was revealed as a concept at the EICMA show in Milan.
Looks like the covers are going to be lifted on the production model next week. Should blow the doors off the existing Japanese 650's.

I'm also watching with interest. My ideal bike is one which is super light with great handling, yet still comfortable to ride on a long trip. This looks like potentially ticking all of those boxes, especially if the claimed wet weight numbers turn out to be accurate.

That was exactly the criteria I used for my KTM 790, being an old bugger with shot knees. No regrets whatsoever in buying one and although I've only done 600 km in one hit on it just stopping for gas, it was surprisingly comfortable. There's definitely something to be said for light bikes. The Street Triple I owned was the most comfortable of all the bikes I've done the 1600 km/24 hour Rusty Nuts rides on.

I totally agree about the Street Triple. I did the 1KC on it last year: 1300km door to door and it was still comfortable.

Looks good. I'm hoping that they do a naked version along the lines of the Shiver. That would be interesting. :niceone:

It has finally been revealed:

https://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bikes/2020-aprilia-rs-660-eicma

It certainly looks the part:

It's supposedly 101 PS and 169kg dry. I wonder what the sale price will be.

I'm definitely looking forward to riding one back to back with my Street Triple.

Looks great, 100 HP, 169kg dry, 270 degree crank for good sound, clip ons on top of the yoke for us 50 yr olds Lol.
Just wanna know the price now

Apparently they're teasing an adventure bike as well.

I initially only glimpsed at this thread. Lovely prospect of a bike but no longer my cup of tea.

Your post certainly caught my eye... Should I hold off on pulling the pin on a T7?

Probably not, the Prilla would be competing directly against the 790 KTM with the same potential negatives.

Interesting thought though!

The Tuono 660 concept looks great as well.

It's got two wheels the same colour so that's a good start! :D
They're both smashing looking bikes. Going to be pricey though. Aprilia NZ are predicting around the 20K mark. :eek5:

I rarely even notice 'sportsbikes' these days but that RS660 is a sweet looking thing and by all accounts a light but fast, middle weight twin may be a seller.
100hp from a 660 twin !!!! Remember not that many years ago 600 inline fours were just achieving about 100hp.
More pics.

Oooh, very nice. I really wanted an rs250, but I can't justify $5000 engine rebuilds.

Will keep a close eye on this!

Aprilia NZ has confirmed that the RS 660 will launch in New Zealand and Australia before anywhere else in the world, expected in November 2020. Price is yet to be confirmed but Aprilia NZ expects it to be in the vicinity of $20k.

About what I expected price wise but long wait for stock. Gives a man lots of time to save up if keen. Hmmm.

Apparently they're teasing an adventure bike as well.

If they do, they would need to market it and support it much better than the Caponord 1200. A terrific machine in its class that was criminally left out in the cold.

Sounds like the RS660 model is nearly here. Ive ordered a Tuono, expected in August. No hurry, will be a nice present in the spring. I've gone for the Iridium grey:

I made the mistake of sitting on a Tuono 1000 in the bike shop today. In 20 years of riding, I've never sat on a bike that felt so ergonomically right for me.

As I'd just spent a grand on a service and year's rego on my existing bike (I was waiting to pay for the service), I found enough willpower to walk away without taking it for a test ride. But, if I ever part ways with my Street Triple, I'll definitely be giving one a try.

I'm intrigued by your comment on the ergos, but probably not a very sensible option.

I rode a mates 1100 Tuono. It was a very silly motorcycle. I found it too upright once on the move and bars too wide so it felt twitchy. But jezuz did it honk. Did the longest and fastest wheelie I've done as well as lots of suplimentry ones (he'd disabled the anti wheelie)

I came back giggling but scared. He said "you don't have to ride it like that " I said " yeah, you kinda do"

I'd like to ride the 660 RS.

The boat has come in. Arrived in Tauranga yst with the first of the Aprilia 660's, RS models. Tuonos are on their way, expected in July. Looking forward to hearing some kiwi reviews.

Not quite so good for a new model, hopefully no NZ units are included in the recall.

I'd be really curious to hear what they thought.

The Aprilia Tuareg 660 looks alright, but I'd still go with the Tenere 700.

As for if anyone has ridden the new 660s in NZ, someone said the RS660s arrived in NZ ports in May, but only recently Motorad in Lower Hutt got one in. Motorazzi said they'd have one in a couple of months. Seems like there is a waiting list :(

$19,995 for a 660 twin is a bit of a stretch :eek5:. The Tuareg does look better than the T7 but if it's close to $20k as well that's steep. Mind you the T7 is $17.3k which is also getting up there. Will be interesting to see what the KTM490 twin adventure goes for when it turns up.

The Tuono's aren't here yet (or maybe sitting in the Hauraki gulf or in a container on a wharf such is shipping today ) but there's a dude on the Aprilia Forum from Tauranga who's had his RS for a couple of weeks now and loves it. Quote: " its a beautiful machine and handles like a charm".

I've since ridden an 1100. Great bike, I might buy one.
