Advise from the British Motorcycle Federation (http://www.bmf.co.uk)

Intuition Is all Important. Ride within your abilities and to suit prevailing conditions and you'll give yourself (and other road users) a chance to react. Don't take risks and don't overestimate your riding skills.

Make safety your primary concern in all your riding decisions. Stay alert, observe and respond.

Polish your riding skills. Consider a rider development course to build on the skills that you already have.

Aggression and riding don't mix. Take it easy and keep calm. Avoid alcohol, drugs and fatigue.

Consider your own experience of near misses or accidents and what you can learn from them. Identity and respond to hazards.

Take nothing for granted. Recognise that you're vulnerable; adopt a responsible attitude to your own riding your safety depends on it........
