Any speedo units off the GS1000 range will fit. Not just the GS1000s model. There is still a few bit's available at some wreckers.

Hi FJ Rider, cheers, yes the same speedo unit is used on several models from '78-'80 ish. GS750, 850, etc. Any ideas about which wreckers to try?
Thanks, kiwimacchi

The speedo ratio is 2240 rpm=60mph so any jap bike mechanism that fits in the shell with the original face and needle should work as a last resort.

Cool. Thanks for that. Might need the services.
They're specialists in vintage & classic instrument restoration and at one stage they did/ may still hold the calibration & service tender for the police vehicles in Christchurch & surrounding areas

It was identical (as it should be) to the one on my GS1000s. It had the km/hr as well as Mph on the gauge.
I did go through a few speedo cables too.
I must have been going too fast ... :blank:

I must have been going too fast ... :blank:Nap just crap quility. I went through a few on my GSX750EZ in the 50,000 odd kms I had that. In comparison non in the 90,000kms I've done on my CB550. Unsure of the 72,000kms before I got it though.

My GS1000s was (supposed to be) an '81 model. But the model varied a bit over the years it was built. The speedo was a bit common to all (most ??) models.

that's not worth a cunt full of cold snow as the 1979 GS1000SN had the dash set up while the GS1000ST from 1980 had the standalone instruments
Part # = 34101-49080
Part Description = SPEEDOMETER ASSEMBLY
Model Count = 1

And the 1981 had the dash set-up as well.
Two of the bikes I've owned. A 1979 GS1000e and a 1981 GS1000s. Both had identical speedo/Taco setups. That's me in the Thailand T-shirt. Singapore 1981 (NZ Army Dieppe Barracks).

the dash set up i meant is like a car where the instruments are merged into the fairing, whereas the bikes yu're talking of have an instrument cluster that is the same set up with or without the fairing

Hi guys,
Sorry, been a while since I was here. Have got another speedo through a Chch fellow biker, and had the original re-repaired by Parrotts.
Agree there are 2 styles on GS thous. Mine is a ST, so has the 2 guage type. (same as most GS1000). The SN has a dashboard.
Anyway, all sorted, but really appreciate the debate that's been going on!! Thanks, too, Jellywrestler.
