Any info if the road and venue are dry enough for tomorrow?

Today was a 'wash out' to say the least.

Dry-ish in South Otago but oh boy, south of Gore was a no-go.

Booked in for the Burt Munro so want to get there...:niceone:

Thanks, looking at heading there after lunch tomorrow..

Seen quite a few bikes heading north with tents & gear strapped on, I guess they gave up trying to get through...

Quote from someone in Invers 5hrs ago

The Burt Munro Challenge Rally Site in Invercargill IS NOT UNDER WATER. It is as dry as a whistle at the Rally site.
For people posting that it is under water, please stop, especially when you live out of town.
Invercargill is currently isolated due to flooding with no way in or out of the city at the moment. Water should go down at low tide later tonight providing we have no more rain.

Had two stay here last night and left this morning heading down via Catlins and got there :niceone:

Check this link in the morning for the main roads - https://www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz/traffic

While the water is going down now there will be some damage, thinking SH6 in particular, so could be slow going in places. Some of the standing water could well hide damage or big fuck off potholes so watch out.

Try this one for the back roads but council office staff will be off tomorrow so it is unlikely to be fully up to date - https://www.aa.co.nz/travel/roadwatch/

Just remember, when you do finally get there after a heroic battle against the elements and everything our great Lord can throw at you, you'll be in Invercargill.

EDIT - For those heading down the east coast it looks like SH1 at Moeraki could be closed until mid/late afternoon today. No detour available.

i heard Gore was well flooded, that'll give the locals a chance to use their webbed feet and hands for a change....

I got all the way from Cromwell to Invers in a van yesterday.
Turned right at Moa Flat & followed the detour.
Saw you at the drags last night scummy. You were in conversation with a bloke & his son, so finished my hot dog & left you to it.

Road to Gore was open when we headed through this afternoon, only had gusty strong wind to contend with.

What an event, man there's some mad bastards on those bikes at the races.

As for those thaat overtook me by crossing yellow lines (and I'd moved well to the left to let them slip past - but no, they had to cross right into the centre of the opposite lane) and did so as they were approaching a blind crest on a hill - I have other descriptions for them, grrr:facepalm::tugger::oi-grr:

A visiting Aussie - posting on another forum - described Sunday as "another day of extreme spectating"

I think he's caught on to Southland ways now, LOL.
