As the title states, I need some help with an electric motor.on a drill press it's a 2 speed 3 phase motor 6 wires coming from the motor.
The 2 speeds are a single winding not 2 separate ones.
I have a good collection of contactors and switches, I have tried a few things but am slowly losing my mind!
Any help would be appreciated.
I have had the motor running by hooking leads 1 2 and 2 to power and 4 5 6 tied together and power to 4 5 6 with 1 2 3 capped off, what I need is to switch betwee the 2.
I am almost at the point where I am going to buy a VSD drive and wire the bastard in high speed.

For what its worth, my advice is Don't Fuck With 3 Phase. Get a qualified sparky.

Off the top of my head, I can think of 3 different 3-phase 2-speed motors with 6 leads, all of them have different wiring and switching requirements. And those are just the most likely options, there are plenty of others. Doing it wrong could easily damage the motor.
It's a shame that many sparkies don't understand motors, but find one that does, they'll also be able to check that the motor isn't already damaged.

.
there's six wires as there's three windings, should it be wired as star or delta or both. what's inside the terminal cover plate as i can't see the photos, try reposting them

Will reply with pictures later can't figure it out at the minute, the motor is a dahlander pole change motor I am pretty sure it is supposed to be wired as delta or double star with a switch, there is no motor connection box, the wires come from the motor case

I have started wiring this up but I need 2 thermal overloads to suit the 5 amp max load I have a few too big and a few too small, dont worry about the top half of the writing it's for another switch I was working on

star delta is not for speed changing, it gives more grunt for starting simply

I realise this, and what I am asking is where to after that? I was under the assumption that I could modify the starting circuit to get what I am looking for?
Uhh, more torque? I am pretty sure it is more like 40% less torque the whole reason for using a system.like this instead of a DOL is it reduces the in rush on start up

I realise this,
my apologies, i must have missed where you said this.

Right place right time and brought this beast its huge! it was cheaper to get this then a few themeral overloads and a couple of switches

Done, just need to throw an e stop at it.

why did you waste money on a plug and socket?

why did you waste money on a plug and socket?
Why are you so quick to critique and be negative?
Because it was all ready set up there for the drill long before I brought a vfd
Dont bother replying if you are going to be grim and negative. Constructive criticism is welcome but not that shit, go eat ur smashed avo on toast and winge about house prices.
