As per title what was on your m/c new that wasn't actually necessary. On the XF650 it's a silly guard the sits between the horn and lower triple clamp.
I imagine it was there to stop shit from ficking up into the cowling area. In reality it does didly squat and is just an annoyance when working in the faring and front steering components in general so I perminantely removed it before todays imaginary 70km run.

I wonder what happens to airflow over the fairing when it's raining, or more, where the rain ends up going now.

The cover did not actually (sic) cover much. No dust was forced through on todays imaginary run either. I was going to trim a inch off each end but now I don't have to do that.

You might find that water drops gets blown up from under the fairing past the instruments & on to you.
Don't throw it too far yet.

Don't throw it too far yet.Being a part of a current ride I tend not to throw things out. Well that's what wifey says anyway. It can be repurposed in a few plastic weld repairs if needed as well.

Sheep skins protect vinyl from uv rays and heated grips speak for themselve- yeah I'm stuck in the '80sish Oh and there is some other stuff I disagreeee with. Vou also forgot slipper clutch btw..... I like the bump start option no matter how potty the m/c is.....What's remote suspension and how does it work? Is it mounted on a trailer towen behind the bike? Never heard of fuck suspension but I haven't really been keeping up with the most resent fads that make new things look old. Idiot riders still need idiot lights. My understanding is more pot mkakes you feel happier.

Here have a gummy.....

Oh and carb per cylinder on aq multi cylender m/c is a waste of resources....

heated grips are a joke, heated jackets are so much better simply.

Keep the core warm and the rest of you stays warm

Keep the core warm and the rest of you stays warmThat's why you wear multiple layers of clothing and have decent wind chill protect aka a fairing. Something I learnt very quickly when I was 18 travelling from Hobbsenville to Havelock North and back every second weekend for a year on my '77 CJ250.
Back then winter riding attire was a slightly oversizesd pvc yellow over suite, open face helmet with viser, very thick scarf, water proof wool lined mittens, thick socks in plastic bags and full lenght combat boots....

Laggage system was canvas kit bags or pack and rope...

i did lot of riding up mt ruapehu in winter over the years, returned there from wellington after dinner on a four hours ride , simple, core temp but more simple you don't need to go and buy a set of handwarmers for each and every bike. one vest saved so much luggage too.

Nobody changes gear if you are a few 100 ks away from the Kiwi. That is if you don't fall in a dunny. Just need a tent/ sleeping bag and maybe some munchies and a flask of your favorite bevie. Maybe some spare socks and plastic bread bags for the return ride.

Still remember when Murry Cross's GT750 Water Bus chain link broke and the chain went snaking past me in the oppersate direction few miles from the Kiwi while I was on my first CX500. I went and retrieved the chain then handed him a suitable joining link out of my tool kit. Up on the centre stand (remember those?) went the GT750. 10 minutes later we were on our way again... We use to carry all sorts of different shit between us like duct tape, lockwire, insulation tape etc...

if you have a heated jacket, you buy heated gloves. they plug into handy cords provided at the end of the sleeves. I don't have one but I know someone who does.

Never had to use heated vest/'jackets or heated grip/gloves in my past either. Just adapt to what weather protection the bike does or does not have....Seemed to get around both islands for decades in all sorts of weather conditions though....Did random things like in midwinter when it's pissing down pop over to see the folks in Havelock North via the Taihapi- Napier road before it was sealed just for the hell of it.

Seeing as I found a set of old Daytona heated grips in my paerts stash I'm going to try them out and make up my own mind how useful they are. The XF doesn't have the greatest m/c charging system so may even have the add another source of electrickery storage. Maybe even a dynamo the back wheel....

no, heated jacket warms the core and sends blood to the fingers and toes, normally when you get cold the body limits the flow to these areas and that's why you're so cold.

i used to tough it out till i went to the bras with a mate who had heated grips, knew we would be pushing it so grabbed a heated jacket. i'd only use it at a pinch cause toughing it out was part of the adventure, but then i found how clear the mind was when not cold, it wasn't a case of being warm i sought after that it was a clearer head which meant is was a much safer ride simply. with the jacket too i didn't have to bulk up on clothes, everything was betterer
