Looking at picking up this 92 GN250 with 5900km, new alternator, oil, oil filter, spark plug, battery. Compression tested at about 110.

It isn't starting, says he rode it to the store and it wouldn't start back up for him. Turns over but makes a bit of a clunky noise.

Says he hasn't tried crash starting it and I don't have the bike with me so I can't do any hands on troubleshooting which doesn't help you help me, but I'm curious if anyone has any ideas on what that noise could be. Clutch? Starter? Stater? Thanks for any insight.

It's turning the motor over just fine, so nothing mechanical. Seems like no spark. I'd check the kill switch, HT lead, and coil. I'd also check battery voltage to be sure it's still charging, if he's changed the stator then it's possible that the old stator killed the rec-reg on the way out.

A dirty air filter will cause the issue. Take the filter off and a blast of easy start down it's throat will point you on the right direction.

I've seen an air-box with a wasps nest in it. The bike didn't run well ... :shifty:
