G’day everyone,

I recently picked up a project bike to tinker away at. After getting it back into me garage and giving it a clean, a nice slice of dirt came away and left me to discover this whopper of a hole.

Ideally id like to fix this up on a budget, so am not looking find a new crankcase just yet, IF POSSIBLE! Doesn't have to be pretty, doesn’t have to be perfect.
Anyone have any idea’s on a patch job? Lathering a bit of JB weld might not cut it this time round haha.

Cheers in advance!

J B Weld IS Pretty Good, but I dunno, maybe not this time aye!
Be prepared, buy a block/engine and go the whole Hog.

Should be able to weld a patch / get a patch welded but it will require stripping the engine. Hopefully the cases are plain ol' aluminium and not magnesium or something equally exotic. From the location of the hole I'd guess that the chain broke, wrapped around the front sprocket and had nowhere else to go.

Yeah chain from muppet being a dick.

Actually I'd totally JB weld that. Maybe Kneedit. Lots of brake clean. It isn't under pressure.

Bit of plate metal over the top and epoxy will cope. Cleanliness will be king and take a lot of care.

The cases ARE shit to weld, not impossible, i would definitely try JB weld or similar first.

Cheers for the response everyone.

Yep I think you’ve nailed it, must have taken the sprocket guard with it as well.

I had the same thoughts about the JB weld, might work alright seeing as it only really needs to seal the case and not take to much load.

Ill give it a go and report back!

Drain oil. Fukn whole can of brake clean in between wiping clean rag. Cleaner than a nuns cunt after mother superior has given it a good seeing to.

Bit of warmth in case and mixture. Small fan heater.
