two new covid cases in NZ. were these people tested before leaving the UK? what about all the others on their flights too. Looks like the golden boy bloomfield has fallen from grace

Probably not tested before leaving the UK, but what I can't believe is that they were not tested before leaving quarantine, when the 14 day period had not completed. And that one of them had symptoms but chose to ignore it as a "pre-existing" condition. (BTW how can something be pre-existing? Pre, before, before existing means nothing was there, until it existed)

I also find it very difficult to believe they drove all the way from Auckland to Wellington with making any stops at all,and not coming into "contact" with other people.Whislt I am sure there are many people who could and do do that but for a "tourist" that is a big day at the wheel.
I dont think there is anything wrong with the idea but it seems that the actual management of the "quaratine' centres is poor. This is serious stuff it because it makes an absolute mockery of what we all did through levels 3 and 4,and it validates the previous restrictions placed on new arrivals.

Guess that fucks it for anyone else who had valid reasons to ask for exemption.

Very convenient that the symptoms seemed like another illness, given that had they told someone they were sick they probably would have been tested and not allowed to go and do what they wanted to do.

Thanks to these muppets a shitload of other people are in isolation and can't go about their lives as normal, just goes to show what selfish arseholes some people can be.

Not the only case either,

Waste of time bleating to the media now about how hard done by you are having to stay in isolation, there won't be much public sympathy, if people are unhappy just point them in the direction of these idiots as the reason.

That woman in the US that wanted to come back for her son's funeral may be out of luck. That's the funeral for the guy that was hit head on by an idiot going the wrong way on the motorway.

Having anyone come here from the UK or the USA doesn't seem like a good idea currently, neither country has even started to get to grips with the virus.

Anyhoo, the officials that let the two people from the UK loose in the country, one of whom was showing symptoms, should have had the come to Jesus talk. I do find it difficult to believe that the two traveled Auckland to Wellington non-stop with no contact with others. No gas, no cuppa, no loo stop, nothing.

It's not realistic to blame Bloomfield for the fuck up. If it keeps happening though, that'd be different.

i had a friend die a couple of weeks ago, her sister came into nz and was in AK being good for a few days, my friend got worse so they let her come down to the wairarapa.
Deal was,two cars driven to auckland and back without stopping, she came back in one.
I asked my mate if it was both ways, tip, so he took shit loads of gas in the back of the hatchback thingy. We were at level two from memory. the sister came down and in good faith she was allowed to see her dying sister, she had gloves and a cheap mask on when I saw her.

It was a tough game, and she wore the protective gear, but how many in this situation actually do, it's not robust enough to stop shit happening simply.

If it's a funeral watch it on the internaughty, talk on the phone, don't come here and make more funerals.

Systems only work when 1/ the system covers all possibilities and 2/ all people follow the system rules. If there are errors or omissions then people will find a way to exploit these. It's how lawyers make a living.

They should be handed a suitably embarrassing prize for stating the obvious. We haven't had a world wide pandemic for over a hundred years so nobody who was around then is here now. Of course they are making it up as they go.

We may be forgiven though for hoping that the officials will be more on the ball than the twats responsible for this latest fuck up. Letting two people go without testing when one was showing symptoms is not acceptable.

And this stupid Muller wanting to bring thousands of students in has to be the last straw. We are doomed letting these dumb fucks run our country.

It's just my work being extra cautious until they've fully determined how much contact there actually was. We only went back to work on Monday, so we've pretty much been working from home for the past few months anyway. (We started working from home a week or so before the official lockdown started.) It's not realistic to blame Bloomfield for the fuck up. If it keeps happening though, that'd be different.

It's not about blame, or him personally. It's about our government accepting accountability for their stuff-ups.

It's part of the contract that means we plebs continue to pay their wages and costs, and put up with all manner of krap, while they act on our behalf in our best interests.

The issue, here, is that there is an election looming, so anything that takes the shine off Those In Charge is careeer-limiting for all of them.

Worse still, there is no effective opposition to keep them on their toes, so it's down to us lot and the media.

Meanwhile, twist that wrist.

Ok, I'll bite.

My missus works for the pathology lab that processes the Covid-19 tests.

She's a fearless woman my girl (ask Jimmy Mair) she wouldn't blink in the face of a rabid rattlesnake standoff.

When the nurse came back from Africa with suspected Ebola I freaked, she said 'honey its nothing, you gotta be real fucking close swapping fluids to get that one.'
Measles, she was pissed at anti-vaxxers. 'Selfish c**ts' she said.

Then, when C-19 breached our borders, at the time we had 3 cases. I said 'It's just a bad flu, wtf is the panic for'

She looked at me, said 'babe this ones as bad as they get, it's more contagious than than bubonic plague, or flu, or even the common cold. It lives outside the host organism (that's you, me, or bats) for days, not seconds or minutes.... days. Humans have no immunity, in Wuhan recovered patients have re-infected, it is a killer like we have not had before. It's more contagious than any other disease on record. So lock the doors and shoot any strangers in the driveway.'

Now, you wanna argue with a pathology professional? Go ahead, I know better.

Spanish Flu - flu dies within 1 hour of leaving the host, so suck the sneeze to get it, close combat distance only.
Ebola, you need to be in contact with their body fluids, blood extracted ones at that.
Plaugue - need to get bitten by the carrying flea or share sneezes and fluids with a active case.
So to draw comparisons to those diseases is flawed and somewhat ignorant.

This one, lies in wait on some surfaces for days, can be spread airborne as well, carriers can be asymptomatic while infectious from 4-14 DAYS. Maybe longer, if you go symptomatic on day 13 for example....
I spent lock-down at the other end of the kitchen table from the person responsible for coordinating all the lab tests and sample movements in the greater Wellington region, I now consider myself edumacated on C-19 and I wish I wasn't.

And not all those who die have pre-existing conditions, it is true that a pre-existing condition is certainly not helpful but plenty of dead 20 year old's in UK and USA who were fit and healthy.
As for Ashley, well he makes the rules, its the dumb fucks a lot further down the chain of command who failed to dleiever.

Mother earth has had enough of us she sent that bat to the market, I swear. If this breaks loose in our general population, we're fucked.

WRT the covid "procedures", you can have all you like, but humans will do stupid things... If we close a border to arrivals, then anyone who arrives needs to be put straight into monitored isolation. They managed to do it with the first repatriation arrivals going straight from the airport into a military camp.
After that it all fell on its arse when others arrived, were not even checked (I know several people who arrived and were NOT checked).

If you are referring to this https://nationalpost.com/news/covid-19-pandemic-wuhan-institute-of-virology-ebola-national-microbiology-laboratory

then you would have also seen this, further down the article: "...there is no evidence whatsoever tying her or the Winnipeg lab to COVID-19, which American intelligence and science indicates is caused by a naturally occurring virus that likely originated in bats."

But as I wrote in another post, comprehension is obviously not one of you strong points.

Bonez is a Trump supporter, he does not do "facts".
Mentioned in passing makes it good enough for alternative facts

It's not about blame, or him personally. It's about our government accepting accountability for their stuff-ups.

It's part of the contract that means we plebs continue to pay their wages and costs, and put up with all manner of krap, while they act on our behalf in our best interests.

The issue, here, is that there is an election looming, so anything that takes the shine off Those In Charge is careeer-limiting for all of them.

Worse still, there is no effective opposition to keep them on their toes, so it's down to us lot and the media.

Well we got there in the end ... 'Unhelpful distraction': Health Minister David Clark resigns (https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12344904).
