What are the VFR's like?, I see a few people with NC30's in their list, but I never really looked at them. I had the chance to buy an RC30 about 8 years ago, and passed over the opportunity to get my gixxer 1100. In retrospect, probably a bad choice, the RC30 would have held a better value longterm.
I guess I got put off Honda V's back in the days when you could get VF400, VF500, VF750, and VF1000F's and 1000R's. The 750's and some of the 1000F's developed oil woes at high rev's, and a couple of my riding aquaintances at the time had them, and had to shell out some serious bux to get them back on the road after partial seizures, and excessive wear caused by this.
I guess they got a lot of their V issues sorted then?.
VMX1200, have you seen the new Yamaha MT-01, there's one at Filco's here in Nelson, and I must say, I damn near fainted when I saw it. If anything is going to be the new VMAX, I am glad its this bike, because DAMN, is it a visual symphony.
QKCHK, you be careful on that Busa, I recently rode one, and came away with the feeling that I had twisted the space time continuum, they are quite a machine indeed.

IMHO.... best bikes to ever come out of Japan, the 85- VFR was a over enginered bike and remained that way ever since.
ONLY the VF750 had issues and major they were but there were never any woes with the other VF's apart from the 400 being rather bad on fuel usage.
I'd like to know more about your 'riding aquaintances partial seizures' I find that hard to believe.
After the VF750 which cost Honda, they over enginered the VFR.... I recentley had a 86 VFR 750 with 140,000+km on it, I removed the cam covers expecting to see some wear.... but the cams etc still looked like new.
ps: there was a thread recently on the VF range, have a serch for it.

I tried remembering all the bikes I’ve owned the other night, and couldn't. I've been a lucky bstard as I hung around with a bunch of rich kids, so we'd all swap bikes all the time. Sometimes for keeps if we liked one another machines. From what I can remember, from today backwards:
CBR1100XX Super Dooper BiffBird
CBR600RR
ZX6-R
And over the years (in no particular order)....
FJ750
KMX125
RS125
CB600FS
FZR750
Bandit600
Fazer600
RSVR
Puch80 (semi auto no less)
and loads more, some for weeks, some for months, none for more than 18 months.
I always go back to a Honda though, and have never had one fail on me in any way whatsoever yet. Just as well, because I'm useless mechanically.

One ridden till it fell apart, one given to a mate, two sold to mates after they crashed them, and one written off in my sole road accident. Still miss all of the ones I no longer own, each one has left a legacy of memories (not all good, for example the XT had a penchant for breaking down when you most needed it not to). IMHO.... best bikes to ever come out of Japan, the 85- VFR was a over enginered bike and remained that way ever since.
Was that the white interceptor?, I rode an interceptor from Auckland to Tauranga, and had a blast, it was hell grunty, and handled pretty well.
ONLY the VF750 had issues and major they were but there were never any woes with the other VF's apart from the 400 being rather bad on fuel usage.
I'd like to know more about your 'riding aquaintances partial seizures' I find that hard to believe.
This is going back quite a few years, The guys in question both got theirs with about 6k on the clock, from the old World Of Wheels Kwaka dealer that used to be in Eden Terrace in Auckland, and I was there when one of the mechanics said something about this oil feed issue, I may have my wires crossed, I requently do . :)
After the VF750 which cost Honda, they over enginered the VFR.... I recentley had a 86 VFR 750 with 140,000+km on it, I removed the cam covers expecting to see some wear.... but the cams etc still looked like new.
One thing you have to hand to Honda, is that they do indeed indeed learn from their less successful ventures.
I am honestly quite shocked at the total lack of XJ's in these lists. Frying Finn, and Lou had 650's and 750's, but no mention of 550's, or 900's, both of which were superb bikes in my humble opinion.
One bike in this whole thing that really caught my eye though, was the unreal KR1. This little 2 smoke screamer raised the bar in a very large way. I rode an RZ250FS (red rims), and an KR1, and I came back from the KR1 ride with a bigger grin by far. Unusual engine setup on these wasn't there?, they were a "tandem twin", is that right?, either way, superb looking machine.

the interceptor was a 700cc mod for the US market to get around thier import tax set up in the mid 80's ( just sleeved down from750) :niceone: the VF's oil feed to the cams couldn't keep up at high revs :dodge: , thus cam journal wear etc ( this caused their bad reputation ( but it was a common occurance with honda in the early mid 80's due to the hardening process of their cams etc) it happened to the mighty RC30 :headbang: when they were first raced in production racing ( remember Mel Cambell in the aussie endurance racing late 80's) the RC30 & VFR mods have gear driven cams & not camchains. a KR1 is a conventional twin engine, the earlier KR was a tandem twin set up ( had a habit of cooking the rear pot if not set up properly, just the same as the honda MVX did with its rear pot). :done:

List shows model year but not purchase year - list in order of purchases.
I note a lot of riders have had road bikes only and some quite a few. It's my egotistical opinion that you never learn to ride a bike properly unless you get a dirt bike and spend quality time off road. :dodge:
Bullshit.....you dont need an off road bike to ride off road (it helps though). But you are right in the aspect that you pick up skills off road that you cant get on road.

It's not how fast it's top speed is. It's how fast it gets there and if you can hold your speed in corners

man, you guys have all owned some trick rides, I feel quite out of place here....
I just found this too, I guess you guys have already seen it 800 times, but I thought this was a piece of artwork.
saslex, I see the theme too, but they are all pretty sweet bikes dude, nice list.
http://www.funmansion.com/html/Completely-Chrome-Bike.html
All you need are chromed or silver leathers and you disappear on the road, you would pick up the colour of your surrondings and blend in. a good cop stopper.
1. Honda CBR 250, put it back together 1992 - Still have it

Never looked at this thread before. The group I do an annual South Island trip did this head count once and the 'rich one' won by a mile. But I claimed it didn't count because he did bugger all miles on any of them. It's riding them that counts! I can't get over how many people 'own a motorbike' but far less actually ride them.
For me it started in 1975.
Honda XL100 about 1973 model
Honda CG110 new 1975
Honda XL175 (New in 1976. lost while crossing the Waimak. river. It's deep in places!)
Honda CB400/f 1977
Honda SL125 first of three for dirt use
Honda SL 125 again. Wore the first one out.
Kwaka Z650 new in 78. Broke a leg on it.
Honda CB750 Broke a leg on it. Pattern forming.
Yamaha XS650 twin Custom. UK in 1982
Honda SL125..yet again in 1983
Honda XL250 new in 84. Stolen. You bastards rot in hell
Honda GB400 New in 1986
Honda VT500 Custom V twin. Odd ball machine but was great value
Harley Sportster 1200. 1989. Exceeded all my expectations for how often a new bike could break downs. I pushed it more miles than it carried me. Petrol consumption was low for that reason.
Suzuki GS500. 1990. Actually a bit of a gem and 3 times the bike the Harley was for a 3rd the cost.
Kawasaki ER500 1995. Another gem like the GS500. I bought both for commuting
Honda 1997 Firestorm 1000. Red ones were faster and crash better
Honda 2001 CBR929RR. Finally some real performance
Honda 2004 CBR1000RR. the new blade and awesome
Triumph America 2005. New cruiser for a change of pace.
Kawasaki 2005 636. A new green one. Green clashed with my eye colour.
Kawasaki 2005 636. A new red one. Sadly written off only 11 days old
Kawasaki 2005 636. A new black one because I was working my way through all the colours in the brochure.
BMW F800S 2006. A bril. bike, much overlooked. Perfect balance for wheelies once you could get it up.
Triumph Daytona 675. 2007 WOW. Do bikes get any better than these? Did 58k in under 3 yrs.
Triumph Tiger 1050 in 2010. Sick of sports bikes. Was a good choice. Did 28,000 km in first yr. So yes, I like riding it. But keen on the Speed Triple R for next year.
People have questioned my constant changing of bikes, but for me life is too short to drink the house wine. Bikes are like wines, enjoy them, TASTE them, then taste another. If you buy a bike you don't like. It's not the end of the world. Buy something else! Works for me. Probably works for the bike shops too. We have limited time on this planet and so many bikes to experience.

I don't understand how someone can go from such a great bike like a CBR1000RR to an over weight boat anchor.
I had them both at the same time. It was a Jekyl and Hyde thing. Bloody fun it was. Sometimes I went out real early 'cruisin' at 6am on a Sunday so no one would recognise me, for a slow stroll around lake Wairarapa. Only to return in the afternoon and wind out the Blade full tit. But in the end having a bike that can't wheelie seemed pointless to me, so I flicked it on when summer ended. I still rate the America as a good looking and enjoyable ride though.
Hidden deep in all of us is a queer desire to ride a cruiser. Sort of like homos coming out of the closet, I had to give in to the secret desire to try riding feet foward. Fortunately with the right meds you can recover. I am now a recovered cruiserolic with little chance of a relapse. To prove it to myself I test rode the Diavel. Bravely, I returned the keys and walked away.
I had the green 636 at the same time as the Blade as well. But when money got tight I had to sell one, whichever went first. Pissed me off it was the near new 636 that sold. So not long after I changed the Blade for another 636.

I can honestly say that I have no desire to own a cruiser. However, I do have a bit of a motard fetish. I've never ridden one before but I am really keen to ride one to satisfy my cravings. Maybe I should go to a bike dealer to test ride one at some stage just to get it out of my system. This thing here http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dual-purpose/auction-423332928.htm is so sexy.

Kawasaki GA5(?) 100 2 stroke 1980-81, bought 2nd hand at Greenlane Suzuki
Suzuki GT250 X7 2 stroke, bought new, Vinsens
Suzuki GS550 Bought new, Vinsens, written off one night
Yamaha XJ650, bought 2nd hand, Vinsens I think. Had it for years, it never missed a beat, no chain to adjust either. Crashed it through the Paraparas on the way to the Boxing Day races in Wangavegas years ago and had to ride it home dented and steering funny. Still have it in the garage.
Cars for a few years because of family.
