Shipping a motorcycle to USA

A friend is wanting to ride in the States on his GSXR1000. What's involved in shipping it and what sort of cost is he looking at?

I've been through this already, several quotes to ship bike Auckland to Los Angeles, all in the region of $2400-$2600.
Not worth doing for what I wanted. Cheaper for me to buy a bike there and set fire to it at the airport then watch L.A. burn as I fly overhead. Also, scores 12 out of 10 for entertainment.
