The outer lane exits on the first right to get on the motorway.. but you can continue all the way round and take the second left because its two lanes all the way. ...the poms are fantastic drivers, or were when I drove there for seven years or so...I lived just off the A3, one of the busiest routes into London...the roundabout where I joined the A3 was a perfect example of about a million cars in constant and sometimes quite quick movements...seldom did a vehicle have to stop...I saw an overhead camera view of the same roundabout...there would have been 3 to 400mm between every car entering or leaving, and I never saw any prangs or angry fuckwit drivers and it became even more silly and congested 10k up the A3 at the Robin Hood Roundabout where another main arterial joined the A3...probably more cars than are registered to a Chch address went around that roundabout at rush hour...no hassles...

...the first time I came back to visit family I got a cab from the airport to Lyttelton... I had to really laugh when the cabby said it was a busy day on the road today...I tried to find the traffic he spoke of, but there didn't seem to be any...the cabby still yelled and cursed at other drivers...kiwi drivers are the most ignorant and aggressive wanks I have ever seen...

Seems like we build em cheap and fast and have to fix them every 5 minutes. The subcontractor model ruined the copper telecom network eventually as contractors raced to the bottom to increase profit, so I wonder if the same is being applied here. I barely see any rollers on work sites there days so it seems the metal isn't even being compacted as well as it once was.

The road to New Plymouth from this way is totally fucked right now, was bloody sketchy in my car the other day with some of the best wet weather tyres on the market, would hate to take it on a bike in the rain.

It took them 10 yrs of "studying" to conclude what everyone told them 10yrs ago so expect half that again before they roll out a change of seal

The longer version was something of it was supposed to be a cheaper, quicker to lay, easier to repair, & as long if not longer lasting road surface but that didn't live upto claims in NZ conditions (stating it's used successfully elsewhere which is why they green lit it); So after 10yrs of studying surface hold up, costs associated with the lay, repair, & resurface hearing the complaints they have admitted it was a failure it doesn't last the distance, is costing more over the life & has safety concerns attached so will be scrapping it & resurfacing a whole bunch of roads that have it (roads of importance)

My whinge is quite a simple one, and Pete will understand the 3 E's as he's often commented on this way of thinking.

The first E is for engineering, so yeah we're getting better roads built and better vehicles to operate. All moving in right direction.

The second E is for education, so as a trainer/assessor I'm ok with the standard for obtaining a licence moving up. Still quite easy to obtain licence in NZ though, but that's a separate topic.

The third E stands for enforcement, and herein lies my whinge. Simply not enough enforcing of the basics, yep I accept it's a political problem by virtue of not having enough HP crew on the front line. Doesn't help when some of the driving displayed by general duties NZP is hardly leading by example.

I've done it myself, got in one of these modern fandagled vehicular things, night time, city, & just drove off no worries. Wasn't till a few k down the road & had a couple flashes
Dash is always lit like a fucking xmas tree so only a little symbol to tell you lights are on/off, city is bright so can't see the effect of own headlights & I personally mostly drive older vehicles so not used to this always on all the time dash.
Bring back the old 'only lit when headlights on' dash I say!

Not so bad in the city, we have all left a gas station and not picked up on it for a wee bit.
This was open road tween Te Awamutu and Hamilton on the back road, so quite dangerous.
I flashed at them and even flicked mine on and off for a good few hundred metres and they still didn't flick them on. Brain dead.
