Honda GB-clip-ons

Hi, has anyone come across 'riser clip-ons' that would fit a honda GB500 ? Old guy I know,(70's) is struggling with the low riding position. He has already lowered the foot-pegs to change the ergonomics. This helped, but he needs higher bars, that wont break the bank. I forgot to measure his fork-tubes, 41mm from memory ? Cheers, Dave

Been a long time since I saw a GB. Or ride one. Guess they have bars poked into a mount on the triple clamp.

Helibars were one brand. Check F1 engineering Rapid art. I bought some for the RF9, basically bar welded on top of another.

Guess he can make custom. His stuff seems a bit pricey, but when you get them you will see the quality. Important for bars.

If traditional clip ons there are several adjustable models i found when looking for my 675 to convert from bars to clip ons. (Also check above link). My RZ i bought some Italian ones from local shop but for USD forks. Likely available for thin forks.

May well need longer brake lines and cables. Carefully lift weight fully off front wheel and check for tension. Cables easily made by bike shop or Melbar cables with pattern of old +x". Same for brakeline

econohonda is by far the best source of second hand honda parts in NZ once you've narrowed it down. In fact they're old school - you could likely ring Malcolm and he would tell you.

The Clip on bars are the commercially made version of what the old race teams and riders made up themselves. They were built to suit the rider. If he took the bare bars to any engineering workshop ... told the people there what he wanted in regards to height etc ... I'm sure they could build a set and certify them.

you also have gpz550 zx550

be aware some of those kawasaki ones were bolted to the yoke as well.

It appears that these ones are screwed down to the top of the forks ... as opposed to the Honda GB500 ones are clamped onto the forks.

The Kawasaki ones might be cable operated clutch and/or brakes also.

not sure if all Rg250s were 35mm or 37mm or 38mm, but I think some were. (35)

i have seen several listings I suspect the 35mm were the X7 which was called the RG some places

It matters little that the bars that fit the same diameter forks as the GB ... the same diameter forks are just a small part of the equation.

The bars must allow the correct fitting of the front brake fittings ... as well as the Clutch lever fittings ... as well as all the switch-gear and electrical plugs. None of which is an easy transplant from a motorcycle from a different manufacturer ... than the motorcycle that it is to be fitted on.

Custom made parts may be the best and quickest method of getting the result you want. And still able to use the original bars fittings.

Done properly ... the "Improved" bars should look original. That would be the owners first choice I should think.

If not ... it would simply devalue the worth of the bike. "Modern Classic" or not ...
