Noticed this sign coming up to a roundabout on the Silverdale off ramp a
few days ago. Showing a motorcyclist on his bike.

And someone else saw one somewhere else in Auckland (that posted).

Wow that is great.

They are BIG signs and really get noticed to create motorcycle awareness!!

To the LTSA -ACC - great job well done, this can only be a positive thing for everyone. :ride:

must... muster... usual... cynicism... nah.

It is nice to see something (hopefully) useful being done in the raising-awareness arena, innit? The signs are popping up at just about every major offramp in the area.

Now all they need to do is legalise filtering.

So thats what I saw on the Mt. Wellington on/off ramps. Nice idea and about time.

Wasn't me and I remember someone posting about them. Can't remember who though.

Great idea. It's nice to see the LTSA being proactive and supportive instead of bitching about what a bunch of accident prone losers we are. It also (golf clap) acknowledges that car drivers may have something to do with 'bike accidents :)

I saw such a sign on the back of a bus yesterday at the Pt. Chevalier Motorway onramp/offramp lights.

Classic Hits are also doing 'watch out for motorcycle' ads in the morning during peak drive time....so I guess there must be other stations doing it as well. Good stuff.

Lots of them all around Hamilton, especially at the large round abouts, -the ones with huge agapanthas obscuring everyones vision. Don't know if you guys have the same posters there but in our ones the biker looks like a possum stuck in the headlights..

I pass between 2-3 of these signs every day & have also heard the phraseology on the radio. It's a cartoon of a biker made to look like some sort of freakazoid! I've seen that same expression on the faces of scooter & vespa riders before!

Who is responsible for this campaign & when are they going to put one out to make the public more aware of ignorant bus & taxi drivers???:buggerd:

So when someone is looking at this new sign on the side of the road - are they in fact looking out for motorcycles?

ACC 'think safe' campaign (I think - well thats what it says on the signs)Its a cooperative effort between ACC and either BRONZ and/or Ulysses. (I think)

think they're just doing it to try to justify the acc levies,a few token signs should satisfy those gullible bikers........

good to see the signs.
...although I feel a bit guillty now when I lane split past cars as I go by the signs!
good call on the possum look! maybe they should've shown a bike locked up in a stoppie trying to avoid a car pulling out on them instead.. .that'd be more accurate!

The signs in Hamilton are the same as the ones in Auckland.

and i think they are suposed to look like a biker when he is about to hit a car or pullign a stopie.

RUBs (Rich Urban Bikers - The Mayor is one) must have more clout in Auckland, so they get the signs.

Interesting enough I noticed when we went on the ride ky organised to the loop that down in Karaka there is a sign (heavily overgrown with brambles) saying "Look out for motorbikes!". Looks to be circa 1980. Then around the bend there is a old style (the old hazards signs before the yellow ones) black and white sign saying something similar.

This appears to have been a local initiative by the local council. I wonder who had the pull down there.

:devil2: Why don't we ride down there with some lopping shears and prune
back the brambles - reveal the signs - and recycle them for another year?
Huh? We would be in protective gear, so no brambly scratches !
Wait for the Local council to do it, and you WILL wait........
The latest motorcycle safety initiative was a joint effort with ACC, Ulysees m/c club and some others.
I'm all for as much publicity for motorcycling safety as we can get!
