Hiya all,

As promised in a earlier thread I will post some info for those who are interested in doin 'the quarter mile'.....

When: Friday 4th Nov
Time: Pre-race inspection starts from 5.30pm right up to 11pm. Racing starts approx 9.30pm onwards finishing after 1am. (Sorry Learners and Restricted)
Where: Champion Raceway @ Meremere. Approx 10mins south of Bombays
Cost: $35 to race, $10 to spectate - Food and Drinks stalls available.
For more info: Call 08003724722464 Champion Raceway

What I propose.. This is WEATHER PERMITTING - If there is the high chance of rain, we can postpone to the 18th Nov (the raceway will usually cancel anyway if it's like Cats ' n ' Dogs).....
A group meeting at Autobarn on Southern Motorway @ Papakura (everyone should know where..) at 7pm, leave @ 8pm get there around 8.15 - 8.30ish. THEN RACE!!

IF YOU WISH TO RACE, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR HORSE IS UP TO STANDARD! NO REG, NO WOF - NO RACE!

I assume you asking if you can race what you ride down on..

Course yeah!! As long as it is road legal. Only problem is if you crap off........... logistics problem. How do you get home and how does the bike get home?

Hiya all,As promised in a earlier thread I will post some info for those who are interested in doin 'the quarter mile'.....Just like to say to all those out there; this is great fun. I did the Waiarapa sprints last month. I came quite last, but I still had a laugh. Cool thing is, next month I go back with my mods and see if they made a difference.

So even if you have a 250 (Or less..), give it a go. It's worth your $35.

god i miss my Vmax at times like these

There are 6 classes in all

4 of the 6 are heads up for boi racer cars (Classes 1-4)
1 of the 6 is for motorcycle heads up open (Class 5)
and there is Dial your own - Cars and bikes combined (Class 6)

Excuse my ignorance...........

You can usually see me floating around taking photos. Sometimes I even get off my lazy arse and run my bike or my car, depending on how I feel.

Hey, you can't argue with the man.......... all sizes can race. Thats the benefit of Dial your own. As mentioned, it's a great way of comparing mods to your bike and to see how fast your reactions are....as well as your top speed/time. ;) :2thumbsup:

I assume they will check for Rego (dunno why, all I know is they check to see if you are up to road standard - if you are trying to dodge gettin a rego give this a call and ask them if you can....... 0800-3724-722464)

They have running water @ the start of the track to spin up your wheels - are ya in YOSHI?

I think some of the guys will have more fun in the Dial your own, specially when you get to waste some boi racer or gook..... not that it relates to the outcome.. but it does look good.

Great cheap night out with a bit of fun throwen into the mix. Draco and I had a fun time racing down the strip, she clocked in a faster run than me on her last run, still fuming about that. But I got my own back by winning the "Dial your own" class.

Good fun to put yourself up agains the boi racers etc, and see some nice cars and bikes heading down the strip. Highly recomend it to everyone, even if it's just to say that you've done it.

Thats why i thought consistent 10.1's my mate did on the 98 R1 was pretty good, that was at the night drags with wheel spin most of the quarter and plenty of sideways action..he won the overall season but can't remember which year 2000/2001? maybe ?..

Indeed :niceone:.. actually it might have been 02 ..i guess you know what happened when he got the itch being so close to the 9's and went lowered with the wheelie bar.

Yep,I was there that night....I'm pretty sure that was the season I took it out,I guess kinda by default eh.....
Many drag racers have told me since he shoulda had two wheels on his bar though.....

Yes,the Black one.. it was a accident, the main thing was there was no serious injury except where i might have stepped on Tim getting to my bike :devil2: ( i was on his R1 and have to say the TL handled like a barge compared to it)

Ehhh bit of a dissapointment actualy. There weren't many bikes entered at all. 4 kiwi bikers arrived too late to get scrutineered as they had got their 250 entrants quota already. So it was cars, cars, cars. Only saw about 6 bikes go up the strip. A hayabusa, aprilla, zx10, tl1000, a drag customised hayabusa, cb9hornet. To be honest the times were pretty average for the bikes mostly in the 12's and the special hayabusa getting into the 10's, though I think it could have done a lot better.
Still the turnout was huge, looked like most of the teenage population of west and south auckland was there. Some nice fireworks and the weather was fine. Just a bit boring watching honda civics etc getting 15's.

One thing I didn't understand is that one of the classes had staggered starts for each lane. Must have been a handicap system or somat, how does that work?

C6 = DYO or Dial Your Own. Yes, it is a self-handicapping system. I won't go into the details, they do explain them on the nightspeed website.
Saw you ride past, but you probably didn't recgonize my cage.
Also saw a certain 'chk' on a 'busa zoom past me at mach 2 near Takanini...tut, tut ;P

Went down earlyish to make sure I had time to do a few practice runs.
Quite a few bikes there but I don't think any Kiwibikers were racing. I saw QKCHK and Custard's bikes but not the riders themselves (parked next to you guys at the end).
Was quite fun waxing a few cagers in the practice runs. My best time was a 12.9 which isn't all that fast for a bike, but then again the SV isn't really made for the strip. Had to leave a bit early cause I wanted to do the Coromandel loop today. All in all a pretty good night.

DEATH_INC.
5th November 2005, 21:26
12.9 is ok for an SV650.The times here are never as fast as you see in aus or the us.Draco was gonna come but long hours at work and iffy looking weather sorta put her off.Next time.
Hopeful to have My turbo done before chrissy  then we'll go down and I'll show ya's what a proper out of control pass looks like :niceone:

6th November 2005, 11:06
All in all, swanman and chickenfunkstar summed it all up for me. It was a bit disappointing to arrive down there with a good sized group only to find we were told to "sod-off" by the officials because the 'boi racers' were more preferred over us....well thats my theory anyway....

Next time (on the 18th Nov) we will go down earlier and I won't listen to the prat on the other side of the Dragway phone saying that scrutineering doesn't close til 9.30pm! SHIT HAPPENS

DEATH_INC.
12th November 2005, 04:57
Yep,it pays to get there as early as poss anyhow, that way you can use all your practice runs and get dialled in well before the actual racing starts.I usually bolt home from work then head off straight away....

Just a bit boring watching honda civics etc getting 15's.

Amen, i dunno why those fuckwits waste their time, if it doesnt do at least a 13 dont bother IMO

it cracks me up when you overhear boi racers convo's sometimes "my 1600 vtec civic can smoke the lastest sti wrx" the boi racer thinks his civic is some specially modded supercar from honda that has like 300 n/a hp. I detest going into places like repco cause its usually full of the spotty faced dreamers.

Good to hear the fastest thing on the night was on two wheels
