I have a 1988 Yamaha xv400. Recently dropped a bottom end bearing. I've looked into rebuilding but I want to know if I can swap the motor for a xv535 or xv750 of the same era without any major structural changes.

Or if anyone in New Zealand know where i can source a second hand motor.

Cheers

Curt

Try to get hold of the ilustrated parts breakdown manual of each motorcycles and compare frame etc part no. If they are the same you should be good to go.

I'd imqgine the 400 is a Japanese market version of the 535 which is the international export version.

Signing up to a dedicated forum for those modelswill give you a huge amount of information.

Getting lvv for this would be prohibitive even if you could fit and all the ancillaries. Save up and start again would bring you more joy than a money pit that couldn't be recovered. I have done several engine swaps but they bring challenges i suggest you avoid. Like the plague.

DEFINITELY you wont put and XV750 engine in your frame. Where Im not sure is if the 400 is same frame as the 250 or the 500/535.
