Not that bad for fluff news lol
But “ hundreds “ of people worked on the bike....
“7000hrs” of standing around drinking beer looking at the bike...
Is there a post classic land speed class or something?
And Bonneville, surely an off the shelf 999cc four would beat that record????

The "homemade" description is unfair and condescending as well but typical media hype I guess.
Homemade, would have been more accurately "custom built"
And by people who know what they are doing. Again, media speak, easily overlookes as the truth of the story is quite apparent...

If it was described as "custom built" everyone (ie average stuff reader) would have been thinking West Cost choppers. There was a pretty good interview on RNZ with the guy and one of the questions asked was "surely it would be eaier with a modern off the shelf bike" (so the interviewer wasn't completely brain dead) and the builder explained it was the spirit of Munro, making something old do the job.

I was there, the Gen 1 turbo Bus from down south did 328kph and fastest he's been (he did PB at the drags at Ruapuna today) , the GSXR 1100 with 70k on it was trying for original top speed but didnt quite, electric bike was interesting and a daily ride, a 70cc 2stroke the noisiest thing there was pretty cool. A KTM 1290 something did a cracking long wheelie OAB wouldve been proud of :niceone:
Long day and a fair bit of sitting about waiting.....Sport Demons (?) on the Kwaka which detonated badley , headgasket and oil over the back tyre.

Also it seems “white supremacist” seems to be the new black. A throwaway term to cover anything that threatens the political policies of leftist identity politics.
For the record a white supremicist is someone’s like hitler proposing complete genocide of a non pure Bred blue eyed blonde white race.
Or your typical KKK member as seen in movies etc.
Anything else is NOT a white supremicist and the media should be pulled up on this. Anyway in the article it crazily says anti vax groups (never mind all the sub factions of reasons why people don’t want it) are under pinned by white supremicist ideology????
WTF where is the evidence or even basic reasoning that points to such a colossally ridiculous hypothesis. So people of ALL races are dying, countries of ALL races invent vaccines, SOME people of ALL races have various objections to vaccines but some swamp dwelling duck dynasty type redneck outfit is convincing vulnerable people of ALL races not to get the jab????

When you see photos of white supremacists they rarely manage to look superior to very much at all. The attached photo shows the three accused killers of Ahmaud Arbery. Not too many brain cells in that photo.
White supremacists, RWNJs, all arseholes, although some can be surprisingly pleasant to people they consider share their views. It's funny, I remember a post by TDL listing reasons why the Christchurch mosque shooter was not a right wing nut job. I'm currently reading a book by Dr Joe Mulhall a noted expert on the global far right. He spends the best part of a page explaining why the Chritchurch shooter was a far right extremist.

You could say all that and substitute in BLM and far left politics. I mean the black protestors are all effectively saying they are superior as our (mainstream centrist western society) system is so wrong corrupt and broken that it needs to be burnt cancelled and defunded. Not defending the whole kkk crowd but how often do you see them starting racectiots or burning private businesses to ground.
The failed CHOP/ChAZ autonomous zone clearly showed who the smart people in the room are and it wasn’t anyone on the fringe lunatic left. I fact it wasn’t long before they were shooting and stabbing each other and complained the poor oppressed homeless people were stealing all their organic soy latte supplies....
As for the chch Guy our pm banned anyone from reading his material so perhaps he was actually to close to centre??? The left loves it’s identity tags. At the core he was mentally ill to do what he did, any alleged political leanings were minor subsets of his behaviour overall. I fact if the guy had any real political views he would have plead not guilty (would have been no extra penalty when he’s getting life anyway) and used the witness box to promote whatever his ideals were.... but he didn’t.
So if we are are attaching crimes of one racial/social subset group to a political affiliation... can we then label ALL labour voters as......full in the blanks sweetie 😜

Sean pretty much nails it there. With the aid of a couple bourbons I managed to watch about half of Stuffs “Fire and Fury” it’s name prob very unaccidentally plagiarised from the anti trump book coming out of same name.
It’s very strong on fullbore cinematic dark ominous background tunes plus hyper professional use of colour tones like desaturated greens to make you think your watching a horror film.
There’s one part where they mention Steve banning then cut away to him speaking in America but craft it to make it look like he was here on trumps behalf helping the protestors.
That’s really crazy sneaky.
They intersperse clips of the various nz protest leaders speaking on virtual mega screens on side of buildings when in reality look at their view counts SFA people are actually viewing the clips. They make a big deal about Chantelle baker clip a million views but most of that would have been worldwide due to breaking news aspect.
The most batshit crazy part is where they say white supremicists are recruiting women and racial minorities and manipulating them.
The amount of money spent making this “documentary” will tell you whether it’s journalism or something else....

I watched it. Learned little but it did confirm some things.
The passage that I enlarged, which you apparently consider batshit crazy, is right on target. The Nazi pricks manipulating the weak willed fuckups won't have much time for Maori when they've killed all the politicians and journalists and anybody else who pisses them off. Of course an echo chamber driven hit piece is going to “confirm” things when it’s fueled by confirmation bias....
Time for some Babylon Bee style satire.
Sequel to Fire and Fury announced already. Producers have said they need to honour Jacindas role in not only extinguishing the fire but igniting and fuelling the whole show in an artful display of classic problem-reaction-solution politics.
Titled Ignorance and Indifferance it will show how to ignore classic post modern dispute resolution process to fuel burning rages of indifferance and turn an irrelevant minor protest into a boiling cauldron of controlled chaos.
Want to bring in harsh new laws to restrict free speech and public gatherings. Do you want total control over your opposition. Perhaps you want an excuse for more extensive domestic spying programs but your population just never causes enough problems.
Well in ten easy steps Ignorance and Indifferance will show how you can get enough ordinary people to mingle with garden variety crackpots so you can have a festering messy protest in no time at all on the front lawn of your revered democratic institution.

Well....... (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Eyes)
However, to give a more honest answer - Depends on what you define as Evil:
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
For the most part, I don't believe the PM or the Government is Evil per se (although anyone who can read the history of the 20th century and think that any form of Marxism or identitarianism can work and will be good is either delusional or a bit Evil).
I do, however, put it to you that they are the Moral Busybodies that C.S Lewis warned us about. They believe they are doing good, and because they are doing good there is no step to far, no line they will not cross for there is no such thing as too much good.
But in the pursuit of doing good (and again, I'm being charitable here - as most do believe they are doing good - there are a few that absolutely know they are doing evil), they are continually making things worse and worse.
And from that view, their actions become virtually indistinguishable to Evil.

Not “Evil” as that usually involves some kind of cleverness to accomplish.... merely illustrating their lust for control over our lives and those of potential political opposition.
You may have missed it in fluff news but there’s so much discontent with Jacinda and co that the security agencies are overwhelmed and only investigating the most severe blatant displays of violent hatred and even then only tracking the few that are actually capable of carry out any kind of attack or event. One could presume that the majority of people unable to pose are threat are prob in that category because their too busy working multiple jobs and raising kids to have time for anything else. Or they are probably victims of the lack of healthcare and incapacitated.

https://i.stuff.co.nz/pou-tiaki/300938784/data-shows-ongoing-racial-bias-in-police-warrantless-searches
What’s really interesting is the dont graph the data against actual offending or convictions.
If you do the maths it’s only 26 searches a day nationwide over four years and it also corresponds with the massive upsurge in crime much of it by gangs with their own disproportionate ethnic makeup.
So what’s a warrant less search??? Well we’ve all seen police ten 7 where they respond to a violent incident or domestic it’s kinda pertinent to find any weapons used straight away. And the classic car full of stones when they smell drugs.
It would be interesting to see the effect on crime if we went back to the keystone cops style of old days and having to get a judge to issue warrant. I’m sure that extra couple of days to hide your gun from the driveby shooting would restore equality to community. It would hemp reduce crime as cops would find no evidence to convict people.
Somehow I think would be just like the no pursuit policy outcome…..

It's meant to indicate systemic racism, that Maori are being singled out as offenders. It doesn't matter if the police were justified or had reasonable suspicion to conduct a search.
Two approaches for NZ Police to tackle racial bias;
Police shouldn't suspect Maori and let more of them off the hook without biased searches, or
Police should increase the number of unwarranted searches on Asian and European citizens to balance the numbers.
Then there won't be a racial bias anymore.

There is no massive upsurge in crime. There may have been a massive upsurge in National Party talking points and the associated headlines. In 2023 NZ is the second safest country on earth behind only Iceland. NZ is not perfectly crime free but it is still better than anywhere else on the planet - except Iceland.
There does need to be action taken on the Auckland ram raiders some of whom are repeat offenders but are released to offend yet again.

Systemic racism is a politically correct con job to disguise real world crime figures. The often used example is police discretion to let people off on dope smoking and speeding etc. Now the root cause here is those from a poorer background probably lack the intellect to talk nicely and not piss off the cop. It would be great if they kept stats on suspect behaviour towards officer.
So the real solution is no discretion everyone gets a ticket every time, a real hardcore regime I don’t think the populace wants that.
In fact let’s do away with courts so there’s no racism there, as soon as you are accused you are guilty.
I do love that your solution to “ systemic racism” is for police to stop people based on a racial quota.
Just imagine a cop sees an offender (of any race/profile) leaving crime scene that matches offender description. Damn I can’t nab him I’ve already done my quota of interacting with Type 1 profiles today. “Copy Bob and you intercept that guy on Jackson street he’s a 100% match for our suspect I’ve used up my type 1 quota today” oh bugger Jimmy I’ve used up my quota too well just let him go. I’m gonna be busy anyway I’ve just stopped an 80yesr old lady as I need to get my numbers up on them so I’m not ageist.

I don’t care what rest of world is there’s a definite uptick in visible serious violent crime here. We just had a young muppet shoot his workmates in Auckland cbd during a major international sports event. That’s not normal then there’s all the other recent incidents of police being actually shot or shot at.
Ramraids whike spectacular are pretty much a minor thing overall. Vape shops and liquor stores are not crucial to a functioning society. They are a symbol though of our weakness on young offenders and also the dumbing down of the education system that they lack the ability to break in old school style and need to wreck a functioning automobile in the process (stolen or otherwise they prob could have traded the car for what they needed).
Here after the cyclone we had to steal Auckland police helicopter for several weeks. Police kept on saying crime hasn’t gone up but then the truth came out in hard facts a few weeks later.
NZ has a problem and the sooner we admit it the sooner we come up with a real plan to fix it. Covering it up like festering sore just let’s the infection deep into the bones of the nation

I don’t care what rest of world is there’s a definite uptick in visible serious violent crime here. We just had a young muppet shoot his workmates in Auckland cbd during a major international sports event. That’s not normal then there’s all the other recent incidents of police being actually shot or shot at.

Have to agree with you.
I work in the Emergency Housing field.
Our office goes into lockdown, and the police are called, every 5-6 weeks
Almost always due to someone either wanting Emergency Housing, or already there and wanting to move to a better motel.
Requests for the Spencer on Byron are common.

Well after last night it looks like we need a Royal inquiry into why the media polls were so different to election outcome. Although some of the individual electorates did show big variations the general result shows the polls which would influence voting were way off.
But as always gut instinct and the vibe on the street matched real result though. Called it lol

Huh? Actually I just looked at the finmal totals and the polls did not look that far off.

Certainly about what I expected.
I guess we have another super heated house economy to look forward to now. With Chinese banks collapsing, and the US mortgage market looking distinctly shady again, there is a real danger the nz housing market will overheat too much and collapse. Yikes, I hope not.

I personally wasn't paying much attention to polls. I heard a lot about Chris Luxton not being preferred PM so I kinda assumed National was behind in the polls. So, media can focus on elements that may not be what the public at large are focused on. I also feel like media polls may influence people's voting choices. What I mean is that if you were going to vote for party A but the media said they weren't at the 5% threshold, a lot of people might change to voting for party B because they're getting 10% in polls.
The margin of error is usually within 3% so on Election Day, if people ignored media polls and voted for the minor party they actually wanted, they might get a surprise and find party A got 8% on the day.
But also, don't they call people to poll? so are margins of error biased towards people who can be contacted for polls, which may mean the youth vote isn't represented? Are the media polls even gathering from a variety of kiwis or is it purely a random sampling? There seems like a lot of factors that could make media polls inaccurate and unrepresentative.

There are of course many differences between the British way of governing and what has evolved in New Zealand, but many of the points Dunt makes remain valid here too, when “deep-seated, long-lasting national problems go permanently unresolved”.
I'd suggest where such problems remain unresolved it's because they're not government problems, they're individual's problems, needing to be resolved by individuals.

Who’d have thought that after being pumped up like a crack addict on govt funded advertising/propoganda during covid that there wouldn’t be a severe bought of withdrawl symptoms when that cash disappeared.

Another example of AI-generated news causing controversy occurred in 2017 when a news story generated by an AI program falsely reported that Apple was planning to build a $2 billion manufacturing plant in the United States. The story was quickly picked up by several news outlets, including Bloomberg, and caused Apple's stock to briefly rise before the company issued a statement denying the report.

The internet distorted the market 20 years ago. Yes they haven’t been able to adapt, but it’s nothing to do with their editorial approach. The internet companies just give advertisers much better value for money.
Remains to be seen if the new crop of start-ups can make a go of it at a much smaller scale, not everyone will be able to find investors with deep pockets to front the money required, and it’s hard to see how subscription models won’t fragment audiences even further.
This is probably the end of the mass media, in markets as small as ours at any rate.

They might only be in trouble from the perspective of the big media companies who hoovered all of them up back when they made lots of money from advertising and classifieds, a local paper run and owned by locals that doesn't have to return profits to overseas shareholders could still be sustainable.

There was a good clip on one of our news channels few weeks ago. Think it was in Greynouth they still have a real independent newspaper that the local community supports strongly. However it sounded like a lot depended on absolute dedication of the staff and owners.
Thanks to our education system many just don’t read at all these days it’s hard work for brains dialled into instant gratification and no thought required in video format world.
Our news outlets have become clickbait driven rather than truth/reputation based. Fearporn based news about the biggest storm ever, biggest scandal ever, sports stars having handbag fights. There used to be a joke where did here that the women’s weekly, now mainstream media have lowered to that level.
Newspapers worked because they effectively had a monopoly in each town. I’m finding the argument about making big tech pay for using their news ironic given how they all milked fair use copyright laws to effectively steal other people’s content for last 20 years.

Everyone should go to at least one council meeting. The look on there faces when you ask a pertinent question and they have to justify out loud their current decision on something is priceless.
I’m finding it ironic that our media that has for years reported about how people need to adapt to change that there are plenty of jobs for willing workers etc are now writing g an article saying there is not enough journalism jobs for all the redundant workers!!!
Yes that’s right buttercups that’s what happens in times like these. We’ve all had to retrain or do different things in our lives as world changes.
Really though most will be able to do what most journalists eventually anyway. And that’s to move into advertorial world of PR. Writing product release news for businesses disguised as news which fills half our news platforms anyway.

Of note it’s illegal to paint a USA flag on the ground as it will be disrespected by people walking on it.

It’s kinda ironic too the whole use of rainbow for symbol of inclusivity. A rainbow is only visible when you use a tool like a prism to divide white light into its components. Really grey would be a better symbology as there are almost infinite shades, maybe that’s for the next special interest group that society comes up with.

I am still quite dubious about the legality of rainbow crossings.
8.2(3) A pedestrian crossing must be marked in reflectorised white and as specified in Schedule 2.
8.2(3A) If white does not contrast with the colour of the adjacent roadway, the roadway must be resurfaced or marked to provide a contrast to the white lines.
My reading of that is that a rainbow crossing is no longer a legal pedestrian crossing and therefore any motorist approaching one does not have to comply with Section 10.1 of the Road User Rule. Of course, in their head long rush to demonstrate inclusivity and diversity NZTA probably got the rules tweaked somewhere.

It could make for an entertaining court case.
Perhaps Marama Davidson might deliberately step out in front of a Harley Davidson again but on one of those crossings. The charge would be one of hitting a women on pedestrian crossing.
If it doesn’t get thrown out on your excellent words above, perhaps a good lawyer might ask the judge to define what a women is.

I take it back. The photo at the bottom of the page here - Tamaki is a twat (https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/350235602/scepticism-over-brian-tamakis-plan-sue-councils-over-rainbow-projects) and on Google both show the crossing on K Road as being controlled by traffic signals so my comments above don't stand. Well, for that crossing. They do for one at Dunedin airport (https://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/welcoming-rainbow-airport) and I suspect elsewhere in the country.
The Gisborne crossing (https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/350226133/destiny-church-paints-over-gisbornes-rainbow-crossing) that kicked all of this off was not even a proper pedestrian crossing, just one of those 'is it or isn't it' courtesy crossings if you check Google. So, confusing to begin with and even more confusing when painted.
Doesn't seem like the greatest idea, throwing in a bit of uncertainty where you are encouraging pedestrians to walk in front of moving vehicles, but hey, at least some people are happy with the concept.

They've invested heavily in building their own websites and online content, haven't they? Not a solution, as it turns out.
Sweeping away the old structure might mean they can replace it with a much leaner operation that could be sustainable, we'll see I guess. Is there a sustainable local web-based news provider yet? That's not reliant on income from other sources?

What’s not going to work? Their stated goal is to make gang life difficult and unattractive to new people wanting to join.
Basically anytime they play up now the cops will have tools to rattle the cage in middle of night, use search warrants to take guns etc. This is in contrast to previous govt who gave us six years of no chases and normalising driveby shootings etc.
Time will show the results and I’m sure our media won’t hesitate to let us know if gang crime increases under national. But much more likely is boring news headlines and quieter streets.Of course there will be a period of time for habits to change.
The real problem here is the media feel guilty at being complicit in guilt by association with previous regimes weak policies and so are making ridiculous assertions about what they thought will and won’t happen.

odd as reported crime violence has gone down. the crimes that appear to me up the most is fraud and financial crimes. How is national dealing with these?
Overall, the NZCVS found that New Zealanders experienced 2.47 million incidents of crime in the 12-month period. Over the same period, the number of fraud and deception offences grew from 288,000 to 510,000.
