I hate the CBD, and wouldn't visit it at all, if it wasn't for work (I visit clients in the CBD, usually at least one trip per week, but can easily be 3 trips in a week). Last time I looked for a job, anything in the CBD was ruled out. I don't understand the fascination of it, other than being central for suburbs and bus/train/ferry all going to one place. You've got big business hubs in Highbrook, Albany, and Westgate probably coming along etc.

Sadly Rob my faith in submissions such as these making any actual difference has been all but eroded by the farce that was the SH6 'Consultation' process a year or two back.

Fact is that the powers that be simply did what they wanted anyway - I suspect that this will also happen here. London did a similar thing years ago - People continue to travel there and simply pay the money - It gets passed on to you and I in one way or another in the end.

Cynical? Perhaps but experience tells me that's what will happen. :yawn:

That’s the core of the liarbore and greens policies.... pay to pollute. Never had a problem with CBD traffic, it’s not bad by international standards.

What’s really needed is a charge for only doing short hops on motorway.

Public transport is dead in the water now as you can’t use it without accepting to wear a gimp mask and likely mandatory scanning in bloomingliarfields 2.5/1.5 utopia. And with current infrastructure backlogs overruns and skills shortage we are 20 years away from an effective network for Auckland.
Even with a magic wand and money to start say completely replicating a London tube style network tommorow, it would be decades in completion....

Yep the congestion charge will just be paid by the poor shop workers and the rich will just go shopping more often as will be few extra parking spaces.

I help with congestion by trying to avoid the CBD whenever I can. It's working I can see.:devil2:

We had a threadon congestion charging some years back on KB.



"Congestion charging" was enacted in London and the results will be the same here too.
When introduced, the public stayed away, but the wealthy soon discovered it was much more beneficial to pay the cost and use the empy roads to get around far quicker. Really this is just a tax on poor people who may not have the ability to be flexible in hours or destinations with their own vehicle/s OR public transport will not get them where they need to go when they want to travel there.

I avoid going into Auckland at all costs. No wonder Queen St is a shithole of $2- shops when the Auckland cuntcil deliberately fucks with the roads, traffic lights, speed limits, etc, etc.

Having worked there for the last few years it was (I'm not working in the city now) always gridlocked. Not a problem on 2 wheels however.

Only bad thing is the rich still driving - they like to drive Mercs, Beemers & flashy Landcruisers - 3 models of car I don't think I have ever seen a) indicate b) have situational awareness c) care about other road users even if they did have situational awareness.

Remember when the tolled tunnels and expressways were free of charge for bikes? It didn't last for long did it? Eventually they screw everyone.

The only toll that I'm aware of that was eventually removed as promised, was the one on the Auckland Harbour Bridge, and I reckon that was a mistake that someone got fired over [emoji6]

That was put forward with bikes being allowed to use it, to make it safer by not having to lane-split in traffic.
